Good morrow, Farmers. I'm the fellow that's stepped up to care for my aging parents as their mental faculties decline. What I'm trying to do right now is find an appropriate project management software to help manage them. My old man's self-employed (and technically, I'm his subordinate) and my mom's kind of a part-time freelancer. Both of them have a stack of personal kludges to help make their life work.

I'm trying to find something that will help us get on the same page and stop stepping on each others' toes. Right now, I've got the Ruby on Rails project Tracks ( https://github.com/TracksApp/tracks/ ) installed, which seems to fit the problem space decently. But it's making it painfully apparent that I am woefully unfamiliar with this problem space.

So, I ask the hivemind, as there are a lot of you with a lot more high-level management experience than I have. What's out there? Anything with a reasonably boomer-proof UI that makes it easy for a few people to work together?

Look into Asana. A lot of companies use it and I was given a free trial when I was working on my CAPM certification. Easy to use. See if it's something you can use for what you want to.

I’ve tried many productivity apps, but in my experience, focusing too much on finding the perfect “catch-all” solution can become incredibly distracting.

Eventually, I opted to keep it simple—using Outlook with its task list, notes, and calendar features. While I’m not specifically recommending Outlook (eww), I do highly recommend keeping your productivity tools as simple and straightforward as possible in a similar manner.
