If it's something I'm really autistic about and it has preorder bonuses, I just preorder it the day before, otherwise I try to wait for sales.

It depends on the game. I haven't pre-ordered anything from an actual, physical store since 2008. If it's available to pre-order on Amazon, and it's a game I'm really pumped about, I'll go for it.
 
The only game i've ever pre-ordered was Bioshock Infinite, and only because I was genuinely hyped for the game, and there aren't really many games that I show much excitement for.

Other than that, I view pre-ordering as a habit exclusive for those with gratuitous amounts of disposable neetbucks.
