Posture/Balance/Gait/Feet - no, not way you freak

Got a rink near you? Skating.
No rink, just concrete? Skateboarding or rollerskating.
Afraid of faceplanting into a hard surface? Yoga, karate or dancing (OK, the last one can involve serious egoplanting)

You learn to keep your balance fast when it fucking hurts not to.
I skated throughout my teens and early 20s, SUP’ed and surfed constantly every summer in my 30s, and now I wingfoil in my early 40s.

I walk like a goddamn penguin, always have, and now that I’m old it’s starting to result in fun aches and pains so I’m at PT trying to fix a lifetime of compensating. That said, I bet balance sports are still an excellent idea if you’re going into it to address gait/stance issues and make sure you’re learning proper form instead of whatever the hell I was doing all those years.

I've been working on lightening my step, because your legs are made to move your upper body, not carry it from place to place.

My shoes are wearing down a bit slower, with the wear and tear distributing more evenly. Progress, I guess?

I've always had this weird walk, but that probably came from carrying a loaded backpack through my school days, and a sudden growth spurt (6'2) in 8th grade. Then it didn't help buying 2 door sports cars with low sloping roofs, making me hunch to see the stoplights.

My shoes wear unevenly at the heel, sides and top. I have to repeatedly remind myself, "you are now watching your posture manually!" Which only works for maybe 10 to 20 minutes at most.

Bump.

I'm developing a training / lifestyle philosophy I can call my own and my first step was addressing posture and gait. My anxiety and a previous injury made me rest most of my weight unevenly on my left leg and terrible rounded shoulders, which let to a plethora of issues that affected my workouts and daily life.

I do 2x10 wall angles, 3x30s of side hip flexor 3x15 single leg deadlifts as a bit of a warmup and morning exercise. The difference has been massive in just two weeks and has aided in doing my workouts.

I've come to the conclusion that a good posture and gait are essential not only for body health, but aesthetics and even mental health as well.

I always mocked my dad for having wonky feet; big toe bending towards the center from walking in shoes, but like.. extremely. I'm getting there but I think it's normal shoe usage. I have however noticed my pinkie is slowly rolling over, not in a hurtful way, and it bothers me. Then you see other people's feet and they're perfectly photogenic (or even worse like Lee Brawn James' fucking raptor feet).

Yet, I've also seen those people who religiously don't wear shoes and spread their toes and shit and it almost looks worse. Feels like the reshaping of feet is just a necessary evil in modern society.

Going back to op, those moulded inner soles are £60 in Britain and a godsend. I get about 2 years out of a pair.

For running i mix mid foot and toe strike to switch between muscles on long runs.
Toe strike is majority calves/soleus for me (not ideal I know) and gives a brief rest for ham strings and quads.
