Finally after months of suffering from burnout I got some inspiration and did an art I am actually happy with again!
Yeah I don't blame you for seeing similarities. Never the intent but these things can just happen,She reminds me of Jade from Homestuck
Art is good but you should working on your coloring. It's just bit too even and lacking in contrast and don't guide the eye very well. I would consider stronger shadows on the ground and you might want try using more "colorful" shadows in dark blues and purples.I found a beat-up Wacom Intuos 3 tablet in the trash at work. Cleaned up the drawing surface and carved a replacement stylus nib out of a chopstick. It's the first drawing tablet I've been able to try out, and the results are pretty decent, even with the homemade nib and the integral drivers (I guess I should probably download the proper drivers at some point so I can use all the buttons on the tablet).
The test sketch is inspired by a French book I'm reading called "Les Centurions" by Jean Larteguy. It's about French paratrooper officers in Indochina and later Algeria. The tablet really expedites the process of fabricating a sketch. It took only a few days to render a scene like this, whereas before it would have taken me at least 2 weeks if not longer to get to this point with mouse and keyboard. I'll have to see what the painting/coloring stage will be like with the tablet. I imagine it will also see an improvement in speed.
These are some of the last entirely mouse-and-keyboard sketches that I will now probably end up finishing with the tablet:
