The person who draws Hark A Vagrant is vastly overrated in my opinion. I see people talk about it like it's the best webcomic ever, but having read it it's just a shitty gag comic with a historical theme. It has a cutesy art style that while isn't bad doesn't show a lot of talent either. Noelle Stevenson is another one like this: Nimona is apparently insanely successful, been published as a book, talks of a movie, and got her a gig on Wander Over Yonder. Yet I don't know a single person who has heard of it outside of myself. Same problem of cute but limited art style too. I don't hold any ill will towards these people, I'm just confused as to where the plaudits they get come from. They're competent at what they do, but no more.

Kuvshinov studied in some art school in Moscow, and those institutions are very big on classical academic art education, so he actually knows his art fundamentals well. He's also way more successful than your average weaboo, because he actually lives in Japan and earns money with his animu stuff there.

I havent hear about these, but i saw Hark A Vargant online a while ago.
Noelle's art reminds me of those instagram artists that essenitaly draw stick figures but have a huge following cuz they make ""relatable"" few panel comics or me vs others.

Yeah, i know about that, and i saw some of his realistic art that i really liked.
Which is why im confused how he would end up being accused of tracing.

You're equating success and praise, with mastery of skill and originality, which isn't what they're about. Van Gogh is overused, but a good example of being skillful, inspiring, original and mastering his element, while having absolute zero success or acknowledgement in his life. Being praised and being successful have nothing to do with exceptional skills and everything to do with marketing and finding a niche.

Overrated artists aren't overrated, they're rated by the consumer market and what it wants at the moment. You want fairness, you want it to be so the more raw skill and originality an artist has, the more success they should be granted, and if an artist is mediocre in skill and originality than they should be given mediocre success and praise. Life doesn't care, and nether does anyone else besides bitter people. I'm just content with knowing there's people out there that are making a living with what they're passionate about and not giving in to all the others telling them they're not allowed to because they don't live up to someone else's standards.
 
I fucking despise tearzah's shit. Her style is crap but she has like one hundred copycats out there. I'm not gonna save her ugly shit to submit here but if you don't want to Google her, she's that one artist who draws people with huge-ass hips and fugly giant eyelashes.

I honestly really hate slugbox - his art was ok before (hated that pony shit tho), and I liked his shading from a few years ago. But like most artists who get popular, his art is pure trash now. His anatomy has gotten so much worse to where a hand he drew 2 years ago in the same position looks better than one he drew a month or two ago.

And of course no one really minds or points out he's gotten worse since hey titties are titties. As long as they're in good quality the rest of the image is just filler.
