Would it be worth it to get a booster box or at least a trainer box of a current TCG set? I like Giratina and intend to keep any cards I get.

I'm not super well-versed on the TCG, I'm just replying to say that they bumped up the price of the SV stuff by like a buck so that they had an excuse to add another holo to each pack and replaced the yellow borders surrounding the cards
don't know if that applies to the boxes but it does to the booster packs so I'd assume that would affect the boxes
frankly I think trainer boxes are overpriced the minute after you get your first and have the tokens you need to play whereas booster boxes are for fanatics but that's all the help I can give
also wait are you referring to Lost Origin? That's the last set I remember that spotlighted Giratina and it's nearly a year old

He was the standout from his starter group for sure. As much as I love gen 2 as my favorite, I've always thought Meganium was a bit weak in design compared to Feraligatr and Typhlosion (still good but not outstanding). Then Sceptile was just decent... Torterra was a win for Grass starters.

Now that I think about it, there's never been a full set of starters I loved outside of gen 1.

Edit: Calling it now. Entei's form is going to be some sort of horrifying triceratops, pterodactyl, or hadrosaurid (duck-billed) abomination.

I saw someone go through the past Paradox 'mons on Pokébeach when they revealed Raging Bolt and Iron Crown and they mentioned that none of the saurian body plans were reused, that kind nixes the possibility of a pterosaur-themed Paradox Entei.

That depends on which set you want to get and why you want to get ‘em. The SWSH-era sets are terrible when it comes to pull rates for a few reasons (Secret Rares/Alternate Arts aren’t guaranteed in a box, some boxes are expensive due to them being out-of-print) but are good resale-wise. Here’s an example of one of the more recent SWSH-era sets.

A word of note here: the Trainer Gallery cards are basically Alternate Arts prints of older cards (The Pikachu V/VMAX combo here is technically from Vivid Voltage, a good 7+ sets behind the one listed here) that feature a Pokémon and a key human character associated with ‘em. Another thing is that they‘ll replace the reverse-holo in a pack Rather than being in the rare slot.

The SV-era sets are pretty damned good pull rate-wise (Alternate arts and Secret Rares take up one of the reverse-holo slots rather than being in the rare slot) but are terrible when it comes to resale.

And yes you’re seeing this right, the only expensive card is the Secret Illustration Rare Iono. The Magikarp is an outlier since it’s supposedly really hard to pull.

And for reference, these are the most expensive Charizard cards printed in between Sun & Moon and Crown Zenith on the top and the most recent set featuring Charizard (they on presale now but the prices will more than likely drop as more cards are pulled).


There’s another set where Charizard is featured coming out in September but that one has a delayed drop.

I do wonder if these issues will get sorted out by tomorrow, or if TPCi is trying to one-up last year's DOTA 2 The International, for the worst production values in an E-Sports World Championship. Last year's TI did set the bar very high (or low in this case), in the sheer number of ways they screwed up the production.

When Gen 4 first came out, Torterra was the least popular out of the three from what I saw. I was the only one I know that picked him.

From Gen 5 and onwards, I feel like the quality of starters has dropped significantly. I'm lucky if I actually like one of the starters. Where in Gens 1 - 4, I usually liked 2 or all 3 of them.

NO! THE JUMP TO HOME CONSOLE KILLED POKEMON!

Mainline Pokemon should have stay as handheld games.
With the end of the 3DS and the jump to console it really shows Game Freak lack the experience in making large scale console games ala Zelda or Pikmin 4.

Not only that it really show some of the cracks GF has while there still in handhelds, ( can't optimise , cutting some features , etc. ), blown full force with there console mainline games.

At least with there handhelds you can excuse some flaws due of being handhelds but with home consoles not so much.

Mainline Pokemon are one of those series that should've stay as handhelds only games not every games series are suited for home consoles.

With the 3DS gone the whole handheld games genre are either mobile games or ports of GBA/DS/3DS games to home console, PC and some mobile device.
I'm not counting Switch as a handheld since its home console first while the steam deck is just a way to play PC games on the go.
Both are not dedicated handhelds like the DS family lines.

If Nintendo create some successor for the 3DS then the mainline Pokemon will be at least decent.

There home console mainline games feel like there just badly ported 3DS games and it might be true all of them feel like GF was forcing it to be to be a home console game when they in reality there just badly optimised 3DS ports.

You can see in there GB, GBA, DS and even 3DS they know how to make proper mainline Pokemon even with the 3DS ones are slightly rough around but still decent but unlike with SWSH and SV.

Both SWSH and SV feel like it should have been in the 3DS, (or some successor to it), alot of there gameplay I watch feel like it should been better with 2 screens in mind some of the gym test in SV especially should be in 3DS.

GF should have stay in making handheld mainline pokemon games while the console one should been for spinoffs or those play different than the traditional mainline like LGPE and Legends.

TLDR: Mainline Pokemon should have stay in handhelds only.

I think it has to do with them hosting it outside of the US, I love seeing TPCi hosting their World Championships but the company's clearly not built to run it in Japan. I can't remember if they had any issues in London but I definitely remember TPCi having issues with Worlds when it was hosted in Vancouver back in 2013.

Seeing people in their 30s at Play! Pokémon events isn't new, I see people in that age group and older attending prereleases.

That said the way TPCi splits people into age groups (Juniors consist of players born on one year or later, Seniors consist of players born in the four years before the Juniors cut-off, and Masters consists of everyone else past the Seniors cut-off) is funky since it goes by year-of-birth and changes every season. The 2022-2023 season has Juniors consist of players born in 2010 or later, Seniors consist of people born between 2006-2009, and Masters consists of everyone born in 2005 or earlier.

VGC players are throwing a shitfit and complaining about "accessibility" in the competitive scene due to people getting DQ'd at Worlds in pretty high numbers, most of the bans are due the players having genned Legendaries consisting of Pokémon like Landorus and Urshifu.

To be honest if we're going by the average person's definition of "manchildren" (and womanchildren) then the Masters division is nothing but that.

I did see obsidian flames but thought it was out already because of how many people got cards early. Charizard cards feel like a forced meme with how many con artists of all stripes and actual money launderers flock to them and didn’t care for the Charmander on the ETB.

It's still disappointing how these games have such an emphasis on the concept of "friendship" yet expect you to throw all of them away forever when the next game shows up. That is the thing, I thought there was some financial incentive to do it like selling them. It is quite common for people in shitty economics to get money by farming and trading itens for real money, then I remember that this can be easily hacked and sent to other games, so why do it? If they at least got money from doing this, it would make less retarded

There were some Ebay listings about it I saw when looking for pokemon card singles. I do remember the spam of people wanting Arceus while flooding the GTN. Still managed to be the only game I've legit completed the pokedex. GLHF getting magmortar, electivire, golem, and gengar otherwise.

USUM blows the switch games out of the water in terms of quality. Yeah the constant story speedbumps were bullshit and hindered any exploration but it really shines in the postgame when that's gone.

I've been hunting since Gen 3 and I can say that it wasn't always like this either. Every shiny hunter could agree that it was tedious, but that wasn't really what it was all about. It was more about getting together with other teens who just really wanted a shiny they happened to like and chatting. It was probably one of the most social parts of the fandom I've been a part of and I'd be lying if I said that hunting didn't actually teach me to exercise patience. It hurts to see what hunting has become, believe me.
