Why the long face?

Ozempic.

Amid the weight loss treatment’s skyrocketing popularity, surgeons believe that Hollywood is experiencing a spike in the side effect known as “Ozempic Face.”

Several doctors claimed to the Daily Mail that celebs from John Goodman to Sharon Osborne are among those hit hardest by the alleged condition.

For the uninitiated, some side effects of taking Ozempic include sunken eyes, gaunt cheeks and saggy skin, often making the user appear older and more deflated.

“Ozempic face is essentially the same characteristics that we see when patients have rapid or regular weight loss,” Dr. Smita Ramanadham, a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, told the Daily Mail.

“We see a loss of volume in the face, and when we lose fat in the face we see signs like the cheeks are more sunken in, more sagging skin and a general hollowing out of the features.”

Jessica said she never used a weight loss drug but admitted to losing 100 pounds between 2019 and 2020.

The injectable treatment mimics a naturally occurring hormone that tells the brain it’s full, thereby curbing the appetite and inducing rapid weight loss.

Ozempic’s fat-fighting capabilities have understandably made it all the rage in body-obsessed Hollywood, which has allegedly resulted the aforementioned rise in “deflation,” according to experts.

After examining pics of 15 celebs who experienced a major weight loss transformation, a panel of surgeons speculated that at least half may have suffered from this facial emaciation.

The surgeons analyzed the case of actor John Goodman, 71, who shed nearly 200 pounds — nearly half his heaviest weight — since 2007.

Goodman has denied taking Ozempic and the “Roseanne” actor credited dieting, exercise and giving up booze for his pound-shedding pilgrimage.

“You see more lines, more wrinkles and more deflation in his face as he loses weight compared to when he was heavier and his face was fuller,” Ramanadham declared of Goodman.

“These changes are just very typical of overall weight loss regardless of whether weight loss drugs were used.”

John Goodman has reportedly lost nearly 200 pounds since 2007.

Also on the list was singer Robbie Williams, 50, who admitted in the fall that he was taking something “like Ozempic” without specifying the treatment.

Ramanadham believed this was evident in his visage, describing: “You can see a hollowing under the eyes and the cheeks and more wrinkles appearing because of a loss of volume. With Robbie, you can see the direct results of weight loss.”

“Ozempic face” was less pronounced with women, surgeons said, because they’re traditionally more likely to obscure flaws with fillers and makeup.

However, they did point to Sharon Osbourne, who reportedly lost 42 pounds on the drug, as the most “dramatic” example of the condition.

“Her eyes look more sunken in, her cheeks have more hollowing,” claimed Ramanadham.

“There is a significant loss in facial volume as well, and more wrinkling that is associated with it.”

Other alleged Tinsel-frown sufferers included Jessica Simpson, Scott Disick and Liam Payne, although surgeons attributed the latter’s streamlined countenance to buccal fat surgery, in which the fat pad is cored out of the cheeks.

Ozempic face is one of many side effects associated with the drug, of which 9 million prescriptions were written in the last three months of 2022, the Daily Mail reported.

Along with causing people to lose face, the treatment has also been blamed for including vision problems, constipation and even changes in personality.

Meanwhile, in January, several Ozempic adherents claimed they stopped taking the drug and ended up regaining more weight than they lost.

Weight loss drugs skeeve me out. Im not against them or anyone who takes them, I just cant get over feeling like there are going to be terrible health consequences uncovered in those people taking these drugs. So far they seem pretty safe and beneficial, I just have a weird gut feeling about it that I cant get over. Also, of course your face is going to thin out over weight loss- not sure why it is suprising lol
You’re not wrong and for good reason. Look at what the PhenPhen diet did to people.

you should get a full check before starting a new diet
Let's be realistic about what a "full check" entails for everyone but the independently wealthy and overbearing/connected medical professionals:

CBC and Chem 7
A1C
Maybe thyroid labs if they think it's warranted
Weight and BP

No one is getting routine Vitamin D, B12, even ferritin drawn.

No one's family med/internist/"GP" is paying one whit of attention to an overall arc of your personal history anymore. Let alone the NP or PA most people on working man's insurance plans will likely see instead.

You won't get "checked" for nutritional deficiencies until you get sick enough to go in for the symptoms. And even then, they will more likely throw an SSRI at you than draw a lab.

Since it's a diabetes drug is as that's a big sub-group too. Fat diabetics.

Plenty of obese people who are diabetic or pre-diabetic are being prescribed this stuff to control their blood sugar and A1C while also losing weight

Side note trivia: The first of these GLP-1 drugs, exenatide (Byetta) was developed from a protein (exendin-4) isolated from the saliva of the gila monster.

The gila monster only eats four times per year, so there you go.

Side note note: These GLP-1 drugs are also in phase 2 and 3 trials as the first ever breakthrough 'disease modifying therapy' in Parkinson's disease (which can maybe slow or stop the progression )

As for the article it's pretty clear the facial changes are a symptom of rapid weight loss of any type.

While I hate these Hollywood lunatics, I don't get all the hate against regular people taking these drugs. Is it because they are expensive? Like it's seen as a class thing? Or like a moral failing that they couldn't control their weight without it?

Maybe the GLP-1RA drugs not as good as losing weight naturally but if it helps people who are dying like crazy from obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes live healthy normal lives and spend time with their kids, I don't care, and I don't hate them for it.

The first of these drugs (Victoza) is about to go generic as soon as this year, so when these become cheap, I expect there will be a lot more of this.
Oh, so it's not just to lose weight, it's for turning celebrities into lizard people.

Food lobby vs Pharma lobby is my guess.

Apparently food consumption has been negatively affected enough for companies like Walmart to notice.

That looked at spending habits of those on Ozempic rather than just their overall consumer base.

There’s now data to justify the anxiety from snack-food makers about how appetite-suppressing weight-loss shots like Ozempic will hurt their business.
When monthly grocery spending is adjusted for factors including household size and income, spending in households that use so-called GLP-1 drugs decreased by 6% to 9% versus non-GLP-1 households, Morgan Stanley said in a report, citing a survey from Numerator, a market-research provider.

Probably is still concerning for these companies, which is why anyone would try looking at this data.

I'll never forgive Ozempic for turning Anya Taylor-Joy from a cute, bright-eyed alien halfbreed into some frightening human-mantis-woman.
She also got the infamous ponytail lift procedure. Gwen Stefani is another one who had it.

In regards to Ozempic it is funny to me that a fucking diabetes drug is now being used by majority non diabetic people.

Diabetics just can't catch a break, first Trump slashes the price of medicine in half, then Biden undoes it.
Now that every single person in california wants a lifetime supply of it the price is gonna skyrocket trough the roof, i feel sorry for the people who where born diabetics

Gotta get a Martin Skereli type to jack up the price for non diabetics

Why would anyone take this shit when you can just do the keto diet for 3 months, while only having to walk for like a half hour to an hour a day, and lose a fuck ton of weight? I've seen like 20 fat fucks do this and lose like 80 pounds. It worked every time for anyone I knew who said they were doing it
I went on keto after I got back from my month in Thailand, because I ate like a champion and smashed many beers (I was fatter than I'd ever been, which isn't that fat, but I felt slow and crappy). I have currently lost about 10-15 kilos (idk 30ish lbs) in 3 months. I don't have much left to lose, but I'm finding that I have far less inflammation, I sleep better, and I don't crash when I work out hard.
Way better than getting constant injections, shitting up your organs, and looking like a lizard.

Taking a pill is easier and takes less self control.

Holy shit, you weren't kidding. She was so pretty!

Do you still snack on man's ass from time to time?
Not just man ass, but underaged ass too.
Hey QT I disagree with everything you say, but you have really put a bee in the bonnet of every other sexist idiot out here. So plz let me take you snowboarding and buy your underage ass a Coke, well done.

Honestly, fat loss drugs should be subsidized.
I know people will scream
"Lol just lose it at the gym, just don't open your mouth, etc"
Look, I'm glad you have the willpower to not end up a 600lb blob, but a horrifying fuckton of society doesn't.
Sugar is more addictive than heroin, obesity is at all time high, the cost will only keep skyrocketing.

People don't eat fresh produce like the 1930s anymore, people don't cook, don't teach their kids eating fruit is better than candy, etc.

We got a 40 year war on obesity trying to teach dumbass normies that it's bad for their health and we're losing.

COVID-19 killed hundreds of thousands who were already compromised because they were obese, obesity related disease kills the vast majority of humans for decades now, the army has to pay expensive surgeries because fat recruits bring on health problems, even national security is compromised because even in China they can't find healthy recruits.

If a fucking pill can do the job and make some lose 20% of their body weight in 6 months, then make everyone take it, who gives a shit if it makes them look like ghouls and shit themselves?
Better than croaking of heart problems, better than having you pay it, by higher insurance costs or more taxes to pay for your free healthcare if you're a eurocuck.

I'm glad ozempic will start to be generic soon.

Geeze. Yeah I had a family member die of a weight loss surgery from the 80s or 90s iirc, the technique was discontinued due to the issues the people experienced down the road. Basically bypassed some of the intestines, but it bypassed too much so over the next 30 years people slowly died of malnutrition and other deficencies, depite the fact that my family member actually gained all the weight back. It was a very slow and sickly death that took quite a long time, one of the last things she said a few weeks before dying (and being extremely frail from organ system failures) was 'At least I am skinny now'. Heartbreaking. I know that science and tech is further along these days but I just cant see how using drugs to lose weight wont have consequences. Hopefully just personal bias and not another wave of botched weight loss attempts. I do think it is more difficult than it should be to eat properly in America, our processed calorie rich foods and culture around eating, so I feel for anyone struggling (I am trying to lose 20lbs I gained back after losing last year lol)- but it isnt impossible to adjust your lifestyle to lose weight/ be healthier. Just hard.
