I always wonder why Pixy, and to a lesser extant, weaboos, develop this fetish for Japan. I mean, I get the fluctuation of manga and anime BS, but places like Italy, Ireland, Greece, Peru, and S. Korea I would think have the same "edgy exotic" points these people desperately crave. Plus, the culture is probably more accessible to them, and it would be easier to pass off as any one of the aforementioned.

I just don't get it, there has to be more to this than just the anime that attracts these people to glorious Nippon. It seems kinda like how a lot of autistic lol cows have this deep fascination with Sonic.

I think part of it is the desire for a fantasy world, an actual fantasy of pretend, and Japan seems to offer or at least allow that more than any other place. What gets exported (and noticed) by the west is an impression of being a haven of imaginary worlds and pageantry and pretend and happiness. People don't elaborate costumes for parties or just to hang out with their friends! Everything is cute! There's gay manga/anime everywhere so they must totally love teh ghei! And foreigners because they fetishize westerners almost worse than westerners fetishize Asians!

There are people who fetishize Korea the same way, just not so many. Same for European countries, parilticularly the UK and Ireland. I call them Europeeaboos.

But Japan does reign supreme. I think it's that promise of a fantasy land where anything goes and is okay.

I often wonder if the Japanese have internalized the same sort of belief inside, and that's part of the appeal to the weeaboos. Not so much that anything goes, but that they'll be safe and protected no matter what, like the world is some sort of giant Nerf Disneyland. It's astounding how many Japanese vacationing in America get their silly asses killed or seriously injured because they can not be bothered to obey the signs clearly written in eight different languages, including Japanese, telling them to stay on the paths, keep away from the geysers, avoid the bison, not feed the bears, no not even if it would make a great photograph, etc.

I imagine Pixy visiting Japan would go similarly badly, only with Japan's equivalent of bears and bison and whatnot.

This is nothing new. See Orientalism. I think when people see something they saw in pop culture located in another country, they see something that looks cool to them and assume that place must be like that daily. Be honest, you probably noticed Italy-sperging after Assassin's Creed II didn't you?

On-topic: I'd really like to know if anyone has more info on why the lady on the scooter was yelling at her. Was she just mean or did Pixy screw something up, or ignore her so she wouldn't have to do actual work? It's kinda bugging me. Likely more than it should.
I'm curious about it too. I can't believe they would have kept her on after getting freaked out, hiding under a desk, and scratching herself. PT was probably daydreaming, the old lady said one thing to her that snapped her out of it, and it's been blown up after she's gone over it in her mind over and over.

Yes, to a certain extent. However, I've never seen, with the exception of guidos, Italyboos becoming full fledged lolcows. People who have an obsession with Japan seem to have a higher chance of becoming internet laughing stocks. It just is weird how many unhinged weirdos develop a love this one country.

I'm going to say it again: Japan seems to attract lolcows in the same way that Sonic the Hedgehog does. It really is odd.

My personal theory as ridiculous as it sounds, is simply because of manga and anime. While I generally like the style and find many of it to be quite nice, as well as there are a lot of awesome animes, weebs tend to brush all of them together as the best thing ever cause of the pretty art style. Many weebs also tend to have their own waifu/husbandfu and think (due to the obvious ignorance) japan is like thier anime land. This is also due to the fact that a lot of manga and anime revolve around high schools (Whether they're doing some over-the-top shit like save the world or just an ordinary school life usually varies), also a lot of manga/anime artwork likes to bring out the beauty of those parts as well.

Granted many art styles tend to bring out the beauty of ordinary life as well, however weebs tend to think only the japanese do it. There are a lot of parts in the shows as well that sometimes pretreat tiny parts of Japanese culture, however most of them are extremely subtle and unless you know a thing or two bout the culture, it'll go right over your head. So what it boils down to it most weebs Tend to see Japanese culture all from anime / manga, without knowing fuckall about Japan.

It may just come down to population. There were weird people into Japan and Sonic from the start, just because statistically there would be. Then other weirdos joined and happened to be accepted by the existing ones. The bigger population of weirdos attracted more weirdos after acceptance. And more. And more. Until there were just huge flocks of loons.

Possibly.

There are Italyboos actually. They tend to love mob movies like "The Godfather" and "Goodfellas" and like the mob in general, sort of justifying what it does. My older brother was one actually. A lot of old guys in NYC and Philly whose grandfathers came from Sicily are Italyboos I expect.

There are a lot of Ireboos too, like the kids who like flogging molly, or boondock saints. There also are those who love the "Celtic" races and think that Ireland, Scotland etc. are magical lands of druids and magical princesses and fairies, with untapped magic powers. Just look at Enya.
btw, its totes the anime about Japan. lf Pixy never had access to adult swim or anime, shed never have seriously studied Japan

True, Ire/Scotland are normal lands like most others, but try listening to a Gaelic/Welsh song sometimes. It totally sounds like Elvish from Lord of the Rings ;)!

I don't think it's so much that there are more weeaboos than, i.e., anglophiles (look at all the people who sperg out about the british royal family), it's just that they are slightly concentrated into one generation (the power rangers / pokemon generation if you will), and Japanese stuff can be so fucking weird at times you notice it more, especially when kids try to emulate it badly.

Sonic was created by the Japanese as well.

The Weaboo Singularity approaches…

I hear kids are even trying to bring back things like Mods and Teddy Boys, so it's not just countries but also time periods (and associated bad clothing). Probably no matter what it is there's a subculture out there to sperg over it.

Pixy has never seriously studied Japan, adult swim or no.
The french ones are called ouiaboos
Would the ones who are all about southern France be occaboos?

She did get hired, but she was fired before she ever actually got to the real calls. The official excuse was that she "froze up" on a training call, but PT revealed the real reason on a tinychat sometime back, which was that they didn't give her enough breaks or let her take breaks whenever she wanted, and she didn't tolerate that kind of "disrespect".
And that is why 911 operators have practice calls first.

Because they don't make anime cartoons and comic books based on real Japanese life.

Or maybe she has read up on it and realized what a bummer it would be, which is why she hasn't done anything to try and go there herself. She'd rather sit home in Texas and live in her fantasy world.

[6/16/2014 6:22:00 PM] Dead: I only went to college because my parents wanted me to. I hated it.
[6/16/2014 6:22:15 PM] me: Why don't you want to use it? That could lead to a lot of jobs. Not just teaching; many places just want "a degree".
[6/16/2014 6:22:41 PM] Dead: You know what...
[6/16/2014 6:22:51 PM] Dead: I don't think I want to talk to you anymore.
[6/16/2014 6:23:06 PM] Dead: I don't see why I should explain my choices and my desires.
[6/16/2014 6:23:13 PM] Dead: So goodbye.

And after ~5+ months of being her ideal husbando and her doing all sorts of weird shit I asked her to do and never having a single problem with me before, she blocked me just like that.
Well if absolutely nothing else, she certainly has pettiness down to a fine art

OT: There's actually a term for that, "Anglophile". H.P. Lovecraft was one, he would do things like sign dates on his personal letters to friends with years prior to 1776, etc.

Yeah. I've known a fair few. One of my high school friends was both a weeaboo and an Anglophile. So much so that she would tlk in a fake Irish brogue or imitate my accent.

But 'Europeeaboo' covers people who are into Italy, France, Germany, and anywhere else. Not just the British Isles. I just end up getting a lot of Anglophiles going after me. I AM NOT IRISH. OR ENGLISH. I'M AMERICAN OF ITALIAN DESCENT.
