You're just downloading a bunch of dead torrent files, which can be common. Only once Metadata has started downloading do you have a torrent someone is actually seeding.

As for your other problems:
- The Blood Feast 4K Blu-ray that doesn't want to play - try using MediaInfo to identify the codec. MPC-BE is a player that has MediaInfo integrated as default. You could also try opening the file with Avidemux and saving it again as mp4 (without changing anything). EDIT: are you trying to open it while it's at just 2% completion? That's not gonna work. You need at least 95% for your player to slooooowly try to make up for the lack of data.

- Do you use a VPN? If so, you won't be able to connect to as many peers as you would without it. As far as a I know, that's just the way it is because only a few VPN providers support port forwarding. Go to Tools - Options - Advanced and see if the VPN's network connection is selected under "network interface". In my case it's "NordLynx" (I use NordVPN). Another tip: use .torrent files instead of magnets if possible. I can't confirm this, but I think it might help in some cases.

Watched it a few days ago on my treadmill (which I've been away from as I had to crash at work due to the weather). It's more horror than Bloody Axe Wound, which is just a paint-by-numbers teen romance with a gimmick, so it counts in my book. At this point, you can just read the character description "retired military man called back into action for one special case" and just assume it's Liam Neeson. There are certainly worse things to be typecast as.

I started magneting rather than downloading individual torrent files because so many of the ones I downloaded were dead. If something is stuck in "downloading metadata" for more than 15 minutes, I usually delete it from my queue. I've let some sit for hours. What would you say is an appropriate about of time to wait before assuming it's just dead?

Sometimes I leave it for days, hoping someone will seed it. But usually if it doesn't immediately provide metadata, delete it.

So is finding one that works just a shot in the dark? Is there a way to know without magnetting it if anyone's actively seeding? A torrent with with 700+ seeders won't even download. Maybe I just have shitty luck.

The seeder/leecher numbers are reported from the trackers so they're usually pretty accurate within 5-10 minutes. I think the problem is on your end of the connection.

Either your ISP is blocking it or you don't have your ports open on your router for your torrent client would be my guess. I can walk you through checking and opening your ports if you can't figure it out on your own.

They are very helpful when you want to download just a few files from a really big torrent and don't want to wait for it to load the file list.

Isn't torrent metadata primarily pulled over DHT? Make sure you have that enabled and working? I download a lot of hard to find classic cinema. It definitely can take a few minutes, but even old, nearly-dead/dead torrents usually return metadata for me in under 15 minutes. I usually keep DHT/PeX/Local discovery off unless I need them.

Seeders are total currently seeding, not total seeds over the lifetime of a torrent. That's more of a tracker statistic, I think.

I use Protonvpn with Deluge and qBT, so I don't think it's a matter of the software going through the VPN. I've got netshield off, port forwarding off (i've never really understand that option), Wireguard as teh protocol, and vpn accel on.
I vaguely rememeber reading something about going in on the router page (192.168.0.x) and changing settings for torrenting a long time ago.

eta: I am confusion. I'm probably misunderstanding something, but when I'm searching for a title, I'll usually magnet the torrent with the most seeders. Most of the time, I get stuck in "downloading metadata" status. I'm just getting really frustrated right now.

That happens to me from time to time. Double checking the port, then restarting the program usually works for me. I'm using Proton slaved to Qbit.

If you're torrenting through a VPN then port forwarding should be set up with your VPN. You don't need to touch your router settings in that instance.

A few things to check:

• First, check the QBittorrent execution log for errors
• With ProtonVPN are you definitely using a P2P server?
• You mentioned binding QBittorrent to your VPN. If you did this in QBittorrent, double-check it's bound to the correct network interface. The network interface could have changed eg. by changing protocols in VPN client between OpenVPN and Wireguard.
• If you bound the VPN via split tunnelling in the VPN client, double check those settings.

Edit: While it shouldn't be causing issues but you can also uncheck 'Use UPnP / NAT-PMP port forwarding from my router'. That's not going apply for a VPN.

I got the globe icon to show up:
Then, I went into Proton to make sure I was connected to a p2p server and got the flame icon again.

I can see you had attached screenshot of IPs and it shows more than it should if you're binding it to your VPN interface in QBT. See below. I have my network interface set to WindscribeWireguard which is for my VPN client. I can only see the private IP address assigned by my VPN when I do that. This is doing it without split tunneling btw.



Did you look at the execution log? (View menu, Log and Enable Show). Then a new Execution Log tab will appear. There might be an error in there related to DHT nodes that might yield some clues, but I'm honestly at a loss.

Unless anyone else has any suggestions, next thing to try would be deleting the QBT settings. Do this by going into the %APPDATA%\qBittorrent folder and deleting everything. Then launch QBT and set things up again. It won't delete your torrents - they're stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\qBittorrent.
