First Hollywood came for our Legos, and we were pleasantly surprised with the result. Then they came for our emoji, and their fate remains up in the air. And now, they’ve come for our candy as well.

Envision Media Arts announced the development of an animated movie based on Pez Candy dispensers, written by Cameron Fay (Brother in Law).

Pez, the tiny pieces of candy, are more popular for the way they’re packaged than their actual flavor, as dispensers are often topped with famous character heads from which the candy pops out. (It’s a perfect opportunity to recreate the original X-Men moment between Wolverine and Rogue in which she wonders whether his claws injure him when they pop out, trading in adamantium claws coming out of a human Wolverine’s hands for Pez candies appearing out of a dispenser Wolverine’s neck.)

i have a ton of pez dispensers.
i can't even play with them like toys, why would i want to watch a movie based on it?
and besides what would the plot be? the same as the lego movie?

Does anyone give a shit about Pez anymore?
Perhaps those that think a candy dispenser is worthy of a movie. LEGO's were able to have a movie because it's a brand of toys that managed to enjoy a lot of fame, especially since it's a line of toys managed to get a series of games and a cartoon. Pez on the other hand is just a candy dispenser. Unless the movie was about a stoner or kid trying to get all the pez in the world or something, how would they even make a movie about a candy dispenser? Make it like Toy Story or Food Fight?

Okay...why make a movie about Pez?

Oh God, this is going to become a flood of stuff related movies isn't it?

I think the appeal of this, from a developer point of view, is that Pez has the right to lots of other properties. As with Lego, it offers the opportunity to create a massive crossover between different fictional universes. God only knows what they'd do with a movie, though. An hour and a half of Minions and ponies coughing up chalky tablets would seem to have limited appeal, although admittedly I don't really follow what the kids are into.

I actually think a Pez movie could work, if done right. Like...maybe a quirky comedy about a collector who goes on some adventure to find the rarest Pez model to finish their collection. I'm not saying it would automatically be good, but at least it could work as something other than loud colors and noises trying to advertise to children.
