Sorry to join the tsunami of fags offering criticism and no better ideas, but the following is an incomplete list of officials that have the power to go low-effort lone wolf and cause migraines for homeowners/landowners:
- bylaw officers
- various fire marshall / fire dept. reps, fire code inspectors, etc
- building code inspectors (whether municipal, state, or private on a contract with one of these others)
- home insurance inspectors. auditors, investigators
- any kind of law enforcement
- various environmental agencies - can order tests and can unilaterally order very expensive remediations to soil, water, etc.
- any dickhead willing and able to register a prejudicial lien for no good reason (a surprisingly broad group, depending on the state)
- neighbours, troons, the entire world, siccing one of the above on you whether by persuasion or swatting
Responding to and resolving this kind of harassment can be seriously time-consuming, and expensive. And there is danger of a snowball effect where a number of such problems (even if each is frivolous) will appear on the title and/or government records and give the appearance that the property is 'problematic', which leads to even less diligence and care by the next official responding to a complaint.
I wish I had a better idea. Based on stereotype alone, the states that stand out from the list are Nevada and New Mexico - seems like there must be some agent out in some desert town, who wears snake boots and the MAGA hat and wouldn't mind the scrutiny (scrutroony?) and is respected by the local officials such that he won't be fucked with?
