You can say the elderly are retarded for falling for web/phone scams and I'll agree, but scammers are still taking advantage of someone too vulnerable to know any better and in fact have specifically targeted them just because you're too much of a fucking bum to make any sort of honest living and probably because the fucking bastards get off on having tricked so easily because God forbid you don't think the worst of your fellow man at every given turn.

I hope that some time in the near future phone and web scammers are treated just as harshly as pedophiles are. They're to be put on a registry where anyone they come in contact with is made aware that they're dealing with a loathsome piece of shit who seeks out old grandmas and pilfers their meager savings and that is how they've chosen to acquire money. They should be passed around in prison and have the unspeakable be done to them. They should be branded and shamed and have their tongues singed and their fingers broken.

That depends. You can't expect most 80 year old people to understand tech. They're easily fooled, either by ignorance of tech or the slower mind of most elderly people

With AI, it's bound to get way worse. I have an elderly mother and i already instructed her to never say anything on the phone if someone calls her but say nothing. Scammers do this to feed AI your voice so they can replicate it on scams with other family members. I've seen horrible stories of people losing 5 figures in elaborate scams. It's not a simple matter of "click here win ipad lol"

As someone that's worked and lived around the elderly, be careful going too far assuming they're helpless. Sure, there's awful cases with these Indian scammers taking advantage of the vulnerable, but don't assume all the elderly are like that... and I've come across plenty who will gladly take advantage of that.
