Culture Patreon’s Ban on “Anime” Art - War on Anime Intensifies

Patreon Is Being Asked to Ban Child Rape Animators — 37,000+ Have Signed the Petition

Anime content is being banned on Patreon now too, allegedly..

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Patreon's coming for everyone now.

Where should Patreon draw the line?
Patreon is a great platform for creators, especially those with strong, loyal fanbases that want to directly support artists. Musician Jack Conte and developer Sam Yam are the founders of Patreon, and the concept was created because creators were getting stiffed by low-paying platforms like YouTube.

But they’re also getting censored, de-monetized, or de-emphasized if they don’t comply with the rules of YouTube, Facebook, or any other platform. Now, Patreon is being asked to issue its own set of policies around certain kinds of content.

Primis Player Placeholder

Patreon’s creators are extremely varied. YouTube videographers, writers, webcomic artists, podcasters, musicians, and many other creative types connect with targeted audiences through Patreon. And the system is simple: the creators can receive funding directly from their fans, or patrons. They can be paid on a recurring basis or per work of art.

The result? Many artists and creators feel that they are able better express themselves and get paid while doing so. In fact, more than a million active users and 50,000 monthly active creators make Patreon a seriously popular solution for artists. At present, Patreon estimates a staggering $150,000,000 is earned by artists on their platform annually.

Sounds great, except some fringe artists are attracting a lot of negative attention. Journalist Vonny Leclerc first discovered something disturbing: a ‘no pornography’ policy by the company wasn’t being enforced. That started the ball rolling.

+ Sorry, You Can’t Fund Your Fetish Porn Site on Patreon Anymore

Patreon has already clamped down on fetish porn site creators, though shocked onlookers are noticing something far more extreme.

Horrific acts of child rape depicted in animation.
Many of these artists are defending their right to create animations depicting child rape, torture, and other activities. Of course, actually doing these acts is completely illegal, but what about drawing it?

These artists also say they’re creating works for patrons that are demanding it. And it turns out that patrons have been requesting all sorts of pervasive acts from creators. These now include horrific acts of child rape, personalized abuse fantasies, and acts of violence.

Lecler says it’s gone too far. “There are more and more violent, hyper-realistic animations being uploaded all the time,” he shared. “I wondered who had the time, now I can see people are making a living out of creating animated rape and snuff films.”

Lecler says Patreon is not only ignoring these activities, they are encouraging them.

patreon_care2petition.jpg

More than 37,000 thousand people have signed the petition demanding that Patreon stop people from selling child abuse animations through their platform.
The petition has been gaining steam, with more than 10,000 signatures arriving in the past 24 hours. Care2Petitions is hosting this particular protest.

According to the petition, this actually goes way beyond child rape illustrations. It also includes artwork of brutal killings, eye-gouging, other forms of rape… the list goes on. Lecler says one prominent artist is earning over $20,000 a month depicting extreme violence.

Here’s a quick excerpt of the petition page:

This is so many levels of disturbing: that these men can make it without caring, and that others buy it. Patreon is helping facilitate the creation of personalised abuse fantasies. One person [I found] is making $20,000 plus a month making adult games. Many making serious bucks.

What does it tell us about society, about sex and capitalism, that the most lucrative animation careers can come from made-to-order pornography? If you want to understand the things men wish they could do to us, look at the porn they create when they don’t have to use real women.

Patreon is being used to fund realistic animations of rape, eye-gouging, torture. Home-invasion when young women are shot in the face and then raped. @Patreon know about this. What’s being done? I can find hundreds of accounts making this kind of content.”

So where should Patreon draw the line?
Technically, this artwork isn’t illegal — at least in the United States. A picture depicting extreme violence may be extremely distasteful, but an artist has the right to create it. Once that crosses into depicted child pornography, however, a judge may have to decide.

Another legal counter-argument relates to the actual harm done. If patrons and artists exist in an insular environment, one free of actual crime, it’s possible this group is merely acting out gruesome fantasies without dragging people into them. Some of the artwork in question violates Patreon’s pornography policy, though not all of it does.

+ Less Than 2% of Content Creators on Patreon Earn Monthly Minimum Wage

If that artwork is connected to actual crimes — or worse, if it’s depicting real events — then there’s a much different level of enforcement that’s needed.

Now, Patreon is undoubtedly going to be forced to respond — and make tough decisions that balance the broader interests of the community.

More as this develops.

It's also funny how this thread was dormant for months but then Patreon started actually doing shit around the time the rest of the corporate landscape is going turbo-woke. It's probably just a coincidence, but it still makes me wonder.....
It's more of the fact that Patreon is monitoring outside the site. From Patreon to Pixiv (a JAPANESE site). What the fuck? Is that even legal?
I can understand loli/shota, but I'm more peeved that even they banned short people and flat-chested women in general because they are still under 'child' category.
SubscribeStar banned a dude too recently for being political, every single America-orientated site does this bullshit, Mastercard and Visa will look at everything you buy, Paypal will breathe down your neck, and the artists are moving to Fanbox, a Japanese site, because it doesn't do this. I'm not sure if that will lead to the creator(s) kicking out the foreigners soon or just accept it.

I noticed this sort of thing don't happen on small sites, they just leave their users alone like "yeah, do whatever you want, I don't care". But when they go big, they pull out shit like this. Why?
Going big starts attracting more scrutiny. Including from payment processors who aren't interested in running afoul of any laws regarding pornography and will strongly dissuade sites using their services from allowing it (or at least the more extreme/fetishy examples of it) if they happen to take notice of a site.

And you can't create a competing site because mastercard and visa will threaten any bank you try to use

The future is swell
Commence the getting of what they deserve:

First they came for Alex Jones, but I said nothing,
Because I was drawing pedophile octopus rape porn while wearing my rhinestone ponytail buttplug...

flat-chested women in general because they are still under 'child' category.
Wasn't there a popular video game recently that features a flat-chested woman? That seems like a transphobic move on Patreons part.

For many artists, doing small commissions here and there ends up being more well paying than a patreon.
There's all kinds of way to transfer money on the internet nowadays, although it sucks that crypto was popularized as a get rich quick scheme. I can see a lot of people being interested in it in the upcoming years.

I noticed this sort of thing don't happen on small sites, they just leave their users alone like "yeah, do whatever you want, I don't care". But when they go big, they pull out shit like this. Why?
When sites/corporations get big they have more power to influence people and generate money, thus people who want those two things will try to get in charge of them. I'd be very surprised if the people who run paypal and patreon today are the same people who where there when they started.
Also when you're a small site you can't be as picky

Oh fuck you Amazon, that list actually has a few LNs I wanted to get my hands on!
They're the perfect trashy stuff to read while out sailing, fishing or just relaxing and having a couple of drinks.
Not that it really matters to me. The only ones who come out hurting from this will be the legitimate businesses who sell their stock on Amazon and Amazon itself.
Those who want their LNs will still get them through other sites, which there are dozens of.

Why does Amazon allow sex toys and porn to be sold but LNs with far less explicit content is bad?

Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf
What did Elf-san ever do to Amazon? I've actually read a bit of manga adaption of this and the book is pretty harmless Japan wanking.

Also was definitely not expecting for the first stuff to get outright banned like this would be a Villianess story out of all things. Nothing comes to mind about why they'd be banned.

At the risk of sounding autistic and dumb, I think a lot of these companies really do fear a second anime boom.

Manga outselling comics was probably an early warning sign despite how small the markets are in that sector

Between COVID-19 wrecking everyone's shit and the capeshit fad more or less primed to finally crash and burn now more than ever for a variety of reasons, and the fact that 2020 is a year of insanity and the most unlikely of things happening, I would not put it past The Rat and the people at Warner to put the brakes on any competitors and just use the smear tactic of "if it's anime-style artwork, it's clearly depicting minors in a sexual way!" regardless of how tame or non-sexual the artwork itself may be or what the artwork is meant to depict.

If Tokyopop hadn't been scamming bastards themselves with their OEL manga and actually stuck around much longer instead of closing shop for a bit and then coming back, I'd actually be worried about them if there's companies trying to ban anime-related products. At the same time, they're probably thinking "You should have given us your money! We were ahead of our time, you plebs!" but no one's listening because they got what they fucking deserved.

At this point, I'm glad I never caved and tried opening a Patreon like a lot of people kept trying to convince me to do. I'm a procrastinating ass, but it may have saved me this headache in the long run.

Holy hell. This may just be for light novels, but this might actually explain some manga I've been trying to get being curiously "out of stock" or being hard to find with reasonable prices on Amazon the past several months. You fucking kidding me?

Why are Amazon banning Light Novels?

Honestly, if these LN's are SFW and aren't loli or hentai, then this is just madness and is essentially the media equivalent of A-Logging.

Is this really some corporate purge against anything with an anime/manga art style? Or was this an algorithm glitch?

Why does Amazon allow sex toys and porn to be sold but LNs with far less explicit content is bad?

Because the Woke Left have a rabid and irrational raw searing hatred of anime for some goddamn reason and the neolibs are probably terrified of a second anime boom now that woke culture is tanking their own franchises and the normies may be finally getting sick of capeshit now that COVID-19 forced them to detox and kept the latest MCU drivel out of the box office this summer.

The ugly "CalArts" Tumblr bean-mouth genderblob cartoon fad is primed to burst since everyone who's not an SJW either hates the style outright or are so indifferent that they won't consoom the product to begin with, and now that Steven Universe is over and done, it's only a matter of time before that bubble bursts and it doesn't even have the normie support that capeshit does.

Reading that post, it sounds like they might have been banned for cover-art reasons? Amazon very much frowns on misfiling categories too, since you can abuse the charts to get a #1 in an obscure category that way.

(old Article) Patreon’s “Blurry” Guidelines, And The REAL Reason They’re Banning Anime Artists

What this means is:
If you draw anime characters, you’re in trouble on Patreon.
Japanese style anime drawings can be “banned” if Patreon see’s it as a “minor”.
If your anime characters look too young, you’ll be banned.
The interesting thing is Patreon said “restrictions on minors” for Japanese style drawings.
1594510428761.png

Let’s break this down:
Short anime characters = minors.
Big eyes and a big head = Japanese.
Non Japanese style designs = acceptable.
Big hips, big breasts = not a child.
1. If your drawings aren’t westernized, we have a problem with that
2. If she’s short or cute she’s underage, and we won’t allow it
3. If she’s not stacked enough, she’s not a “real woman”
Derpixon Banned From Pornhub For “Problematic” Videos
1594510612477.png

WE TRIED TO WARN YOU!

It always starts with stupidly simple things like cleavage or skirts, or covering up the legs, or removing “problematic” fan-service, or reducing the bust size of a fictional character.

Anyone who didn’t have their head in the sand when Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 didn’t release in the West due to feminists, knew exactly what was coming down the pipeline. They came for our games, our comic books, and now our porn.

Meanwhile a bunch of brain-dead idiots and brainwashed millennials made excuses for the censorship:

“It doesn’t affect gameplay so it doesn’t matter!”
“It doesn’t affect the story so it doesn’t matter”
“Sexual objectification of women is bad!”
“They’re just making them more ‘realistic’!”
“Women wouldn’t wear that into battle anyway!”
“They just changed the art-style!”
“Mods will fix it!”
“Who cares if they’re less sexy? Go to Pornhub!”
The last one is real ironic given that Pornhub is now banning kosher porn they find “problematic”.

This was never about feminism, it was never about sexism, it was never about realism, nor was it even about power fantasies or equality.

This was always about subversion.

Incremental steps for information control. In this case, they want to control what you’re allowed to find arousing. It’s been happening for years, but everyone kept making excuses for it, and they’ll continue to do so as the propaganda escalates and many of your favorite porn artists get the boot.
They’ll continue to promote interracial porn, trans porn, drag culture, and the LGBTQIA+ lifestyle.

Why? Because it’s all about subverting the cultural norms. It means weeding out what you find “normal” and replacing it with what they want to become normal.

But it doesn’t matter. This is all whistles in a high-pitched wind. People didn’t heed the warnings back in 2014, they didn’t in 2015, and they certainly won’t in 2020.

More aritsts will continue to get banned, more content will continue to get filtered, and they’ll continue to subvert your desires and fetishes. Patreon is doing it, Twitter is doing it, Reddit is doing it, MEGA is doing it, and now Pornhub is doing it.
