Parasyte is an anime set in a Japanese highschool (japanese people die at 16 so there's nothing after highschool for them), when suddenly shape shifting aliens (think mini-changelings from the Thing) come to earth unexplained and it becomes a "if I had superpowers I would totally stand up to my highschool bullies lolno he gets beaten up and impress my crush" power fantasy. It tackled cosmic horror pretty well and had an interesting concept.

Parasyte: the Grey is the Netflix live-action adaptation that tries to be it's own thing/distance from the source material and is actually quite okay.
Parasyte does away with all that cosmic horror bs that flies over the normies' head and explains right away how parasytes work and also humans figure it out really fast, it takes longer and they're more mysterious in the source. The parasytes are heavily nerfed and less of a threat.

In this fantastic world, the government force are the good guys, and competent, and actually do stuff. They quickly figure out how the parasytes work and the theme becomes less about a guy who tries to survive in this world where blade swinging aliens cause chaos, and more about a girl being trapped in a fight between government officials and some weird cult.

I just read the manga, it was ok.
Definitely inspired by The Thing.
I know that it's a big franchise now, there anime and live action series, several movies.

Oh... so it's another Netflix bait and switch where they take a recognizable IP and insert some bullshit story starring a small woman into it.
Amazing.
 
I saw Parasyte The Maxim when it was airing and quite enjoyed it. Think I will give it a rewatch soon, and maybe give this live action a shot if its supposedly good.
 
I greatly enjoyed the manga back in the day. It had a nice story, that didn't devolve into stupid shit. It told its story and ended in a timely manner.

Teenage boy gets his hand taken over by a parasyte alien who failed to take over his entire body. Both the parasyte and the boy now have have to work together to hide this from his close one, the government and fights off other parasyte aliens. The parasyte and mc relationship is hilarious, the characters are interesting and believable. The actions is also well done and interesting.

Overall its not some groundbreaking manga but its definitively a solid read. recommend even for non-weeb. IDK about this new korean rip-off but i think the jp live action movie was decent if you dont like reading mangas.

It's relatively faithful. Obviously there needed to be some tweaking to make it work in a modern 2014-setting, but nothing frustrating like it was in Banana Fish, and it has a pretty killer dubstep soundtrack. I remember people going "Eww, dubstep in anime!" when it first came out, but it really grows on you.

I still haven't checked out the dub, so I don't know how it is. I'm going to assume it's decent, but honestly Aya Hirano as Migi was such a highlight I can't see who could've matched her for the dub.

I basically never re-watch things because there's always something I could catch up on, but Parasyte was one of the few shows that felt entirely worth re-watching.
 
I remember liking the anime when I was younger. Maybe I'll give it a rewatch now that I am older. I have been doing this with some books and other forms of media lately and discovered that there are things that completely flew over my head back then.

Anyway, I've heard to this anime. When I googled it I saw the crazy mutant hand. I haven't watched many series in awhile. I should probably go back and look at some.

We talking about Mr. "Gotta Lock In"? Because the final boss being a normal human was actually really good. He has no super powers other than being a murderer, and having all the leverage in the world by putting a knife to the throat of the protag's girl.

Those people forgot about JoJo part 2, which they probably had no issue with.

While that was the original authorial intent, in the anime he… doesn’t do that, he contemplates it but eventually goes back and kills it because no fucking shit.
 
I hate how Parasyte Reversi tries to do a story set at the same time and go on referencings other stuff of the original series instead of just doing another series in other location without my interference.

The Riichi Uechiba in Neo Parasyte m is a masterpiece and everyone should read it
