Anybody here remember Cliffy B's Lawbreakers? The "billion dollar IP" that found itself against Overwatch despite being two separate subsets in the shooter genre?

Do you think Lawbreakers could've found better success if Overwatch did not exist then? Probably not. Overwatch had brand recognition, iconic characters, easy to learn, hard to master gameplay, regular updates. Lawbreakers was polarizing, rigid, competitive in concept. Basically, uninviting to anybody that would take a quick glance.

It's unreal (HAH!) that this guy worked on the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament '99 and then wound up like...This. And became so insanely bitter about the failure.

I get he was obviously upset that his work went down the drain, but...He wound up really barking up the wrong tree afterwards I think.

And while it might have fared better if Overwatch wasn't competing against it, it could have just as easily been a commercial failure like Brink. That came out in 2011 before hero shooters became a super-big thing and it still flopped.

Overwatch had a built-in fanbase thanks to being a Blizzard game. Lawbreakers at best would only have a pre-existing audience of Unreal fans who knew CliffyB through that series.

And this has been my insight on the matter.

I think I've said it already in a different thread, lawbreakers was cool but needed more time in the oven. it probably would have done alright if it released during one of blizzard's many humiliations over the following years. it really reminded me of star wars republic commando's multiplayer that also had a lot of fast paced mechanics and anti gravity. it's kinda comparable to battleborn, just a mix of bad timing and retarded spokesmen who really needed to be kept on a leash. but at least cliffyb isn't a pedophile like randy. as far as I know, at least.

I really miss that style of multiplayer, just team deathmatch on a cool map without any engagement-driving progression mechanics or competitive bullshit. like SWRC, for example. or old halo, quake, unreal, etc.

I've heard there are some community efforts to revive lawbreakers, and I really hope that's true and that they succeed.

You can tell that they briefly considered having Shion show skin but they probably conceded by making it robot bits. The Marvel Rivals release really did have them bring back conventionally attractive retards back. And even then a complaint made them change their chink DPS into being less feminine (I dont think it was too retarded of a change, but the reasoning was EXTREMELY retarded)

Either they learn to ignore the retards and tighten the leash of the tranny devs or they go homeless.

I'm over faggot shit and even though there was no pride month this year, they still activated the midtown pride variant for the month. The sad reality is it's going to take years to fully reverse the damage and get people to come back.

Now that I've put a good amount of hours into both games, my biggest problem with Overwatch compared to Rivals is it feels like there's almost nothing to look forward to even if it is a good game gameplaywise.

A lot of new Overwatch skins look like shit compared to the 2 skins Rivals releases every 1-2 weeks. They have the chinks in the sweatshop with the suicide nets turning out a new hero every month and have a 2-3+ year roadmap, they only have to worry when 2027 ends and the MCU soft reboots after secret wars.

The SBMM also feels stronger in OW. I saw a ton of reviewers talking about how their first 5 hours were nothing, but getting raped by high rank players. I can attest It was like that for me.
