Cory's LPs are an example of being too focused on the gameplay, where a lot of the times he's distracting from interesting discussion by having a spergout about the game. It's way more fun to be listening to OneyPlays while playing a game yourself than to have your attention jerked back to your phone because you dont understand what Cory is mad about without visual evidence it's a bad section or that he's doing bad.

Well said. It also doesn't help that the newer Cory spergouts are very forced and inorganic. Like you hear Cory ranting now and you just know he was writing it out in his head prior to the recording like "Yeah I'm going to scream about coke coffee today they'll like that!". I get wanting to give the audience something they enjoy but to me rage ranting that is feigned is not entertaining unless you're the AVGN.

I've also seen an interesting theory that a huge part of Undertale's success was the fact that Homestuck was on a giga-hiatus for almost the entirety of Undertale's kickstarter and release, so all the energy of the rabid homestuck fans drove Undertale forward like a nitro boost.

It wasn't really because of that, what made Undertale so popular was that it panders to the terminally online fanfic fandom and the music. Undertale is like a fanfic of a video game/other media, but there is no original source of the fanfic.
