my theory currently is that imu is going to reveal himself to the world and maybe even decide to take out every island until only mary geoise remains. whatever happens its gotta be something big enough that everyone joins in to help just like whats shown on elbaph.
I still don't get why the Elders care so much about keeping Imu hidden, when Imu himself doesn't seem to give a shit.

my guess is that imu's point of view is "if they see me, they're going to die" so his appearance is a sign of a racial genocide, whereas the elders would rather not have to wipe islands off the map if they can avoid it.

My guess is the image the Gorosei and the World Government want to present. Also, Imu is himself as above everyone and everything so he probably thought Elbaf would be a simple excursion of “wreck shit and leave”.

Beyond that, you’ll probably have to wait for the endgame.
Luffy arrives at Loadstar Island with all 4 Poneglyphs.
this happened once already but the idea of luffy being captured after getting the one piece and everyone being forced to come together to save him sounds interesting and would definitely solve the issue of luffy being the answer to most major problems in the series. plus i can imagine sabo being the one to save him so in a way its like ace saving luffy this time.
Apparently Oda said the final battle's supposed to blow Marineford out of the water, so I can see there being parallels drawn between pre-and-post-timeskip.
Honestly, if the final war is supposed to be Marineford on steroids, then here’s my guess, assuming the final war is before The One Piece is found:

Elbaf is Sabaody, except Luffy succeeds in what he sets out to do (save the kids), and Imu is the one sent away (that or Imu fucks off because Oda is holding off on Imu really doing anything in regards to Luffy (that or more endgame lore is needed).

Lode Star Island has the Ponegylph that’s held by the man marked by flames, and with it, the Straw Hats have the way to Laugh Tale. But since this is Impel Down, we get word that Vivi has been captured, and Luffy and company set out to rescue her…which is also Enies Lobby

As Luffy and company head to Marineford, word gets out about Luffy having the Poneglyphs, and we get all the old characters chasing Luffy for having the key to The One Piece along with some more lore that Luffy is the key to (such as Joy Boy’s promise to the fish men, and how Luffy is keeping it).

Marineford/Enies Lobby 2.0 starts with the Gorosei presenting Vivi to Imu, and we get lore as to why Imu wants Vivi, the Straw Hats and their friends fight the Marines, the Gorosei, and Blackbeard shows up because of course he does, and all hell breaks loose.

Meanwhile, characters talk about Whitebeard’s last speech, leading people to realize Whitebeard was talking about Luffy.

Gorosei and Imu are defeated, the Celestial Dragons lose their power and status, and Luffy does some Gear 5 stuff, and heads to Laugh Tale.

We have our massive showdowns: Luffy vs Blackbeard, and Zoro vs Mihawk. At Laugh Tale, Luffy faces Shanks. And finally, we learn what the poneglyphs say, and the “funny story” that made Roger laugh: my guess is it’s how Joy Boy managed to get The One Piece on the island, outsmarting his enemies to make it happen, which is part of his life story that answers the big questions that have been asked. And it’s all just one big parade of madness that makes Joy Boy something like Bugs Bunny.

And then…the moment. Luffy obtains The One Piece. And declares himself King of The Pirates.

And just as how the first half ended with Luffy talking about how he’s going to get stronger for his friends before training with Rayleigh, Luffy talks about what his real dream is now that he has Pirate King status now, and how he’s going to make it reality.

And we end on Luffy approaching Shanks with The One Piece, the realization hits that Luffy has surpassed his idol, and he returns the hat.

And if Oda wants to do an epilogue, we’ll probably get the Straw Hats basking in the reality of their individual dreams coming true, and then we go back to Luffy having adventures or something.

And what is The One Piece?

I’ve always felt that it had something to do with The Great Kingdom. Be it a flag, weapon, armor or regalia. Something that shows the significance of having it even if Luffy doesn’t realize it. Because he doesn’t give a shit.

Then the next part: if it’s found BEFORE the final war, then it’s probably something that counters the powers of Imu, which is fueled by the treasure of Mary Geoise. Maybe something like something that can resist Domi Reversi or gives Luffy a way to use Gear 5 with no drawbacks whatsoever.

If it’s found AFTER the final war, then it’ll be something like the Rosetta Stone, where any dumbass can understand the poneglyphs and anything written in the language of the poneglyphs. And it’s not just the “funny story”, but the truth of everything the World Government has kept hidden and killed people to keep under wraps. Except now, everyone can read what went down.

Or it’s like the briefcase from Pulp Fiction, where we don’t see it, and we’re left to fill in the blanks because Oda feels anything he could have it be wouldn’t compare to what fans have speculated it to be.

i think its because the entire basis for the world government as a thing is that all the kingdoms came together and decided to form the world government rather than fight over the empty throne. if imu were to be like "hey everybody im here and this is my throne" not only would some kingdoms begin to fight back but it would be way harder to control everyone if they know there is actually someone at the top controlling everything compared to there being nobody.

not to mention as we saw with ivankov there are still people out there who know the name nerona imu and that alone would cause issues as it would get people looking into the void century if not further. this is why i believe imu will only show himself when the time is right.

Because their entire plan is a con that requires the throne be empty.
If there is no King that means nobody thinks "hey if there is a King I COULD BE KING"

Imu is being active right now because ever since Roger said "You want my treasure! You can have it..I left everything in one place, you just have to find it" and Whitebeard confirmed it's existence to the world shit has begun to spin completely out of control. Imu is being active because shit has gone wrong and honestly I think if Imu wins here and gets the Giant Children and gets the Giants on his side for the coming conflicts his first plan will make "Get behind the Darkies" look subtle.

Honestly, I think Imu won't get the kids because I think he'll do something like let Elbaf have the kids before retreating and ordering the God's Knights to retreat as well. After all, now Luffy is on Imu's radar because he got punched by him. That or kids get saved because the God's Knights have already shown themselves to be a threat, and Oda will do some lore about why the children are a big deal and how things can be different now. And because Oda doesn't want to spend too long focusing on the lore, so folks don't figure out how Luffy takes down Imu and the God's Knights, beyond the small victory of saving the children and showing Loki isn't all that bad after all. TBH, Luffy punching Imu changes a lot of the dynamic going on.

so i was thinking about it and i just realized. has it ever actually been truly explained why imu/the world government want the giant children so badly? i know the navy wants them because they are obviously good warriors and all. but like we saw in marineford a giant soldier is nothing to a devil fruit user or even a haki user. so i dont actually believe the goal is to make an army of giants.

i think giants have something special in their blood that imu needs for some reason. a giant child might even be the key to making an actual devil fruit. rather than a SMILE fruit. remember on punk hazard part of the process for making the SMILE fruits resulted in the kids growing.

what if the reason for that is because ceasar lacked the actual ingredients to make a devil fruit so he was making the children giant rather than using actual giants. it would explain why vegapunk was able to make the seraphim and emulate devil fruit powers since vegapunk took kumas buccaneer blood and IIRC buccaneers are a hybrid of human and giant.

either way this is a long way of saying i think imu wants giants for some fucked up experiment or sacrifice but tells everyone else its for a giant army. if we do ever get a proper exploration of mary geoise i expect we will find an area filled with various failed experiments that never escaped similar to ginny but worse.

"imu has the serum" is a funny theory to hear

People conflate this as a dishonest motivation, but in reality it’s the most honest there is. Where things have gotten murky is that modern works whose motivation is money get undercut by putting out a low quality product. One Piece is on the downswing and Oda’s intentions for the series conclusion is for it to be bigger than ever before, it’s only natural for everyone involved to try and capitalize on it as much as possible.
So one piece is actually coming to an end after 1000+ episodes?

It’s not like Hajime no Ippo or Detective Conan where it can get by on meandering episodic events. Oda has already cleared a lot of the plot points that he’d conceived before the series was even properly picked up.

New chapter.

I’m willing to bet this is the only hit he gets on Imu because Oda doesn’t want people to connect the dots too early, and because he wants Luffy vs Imu to be a big deal if happens in earnest. As it stands, this may be the same as that punch on Charlos, which also means that the finale will be Marineford 2.0 looks more likely.
Well, if Oda doesn't want me to think this is a big deal, then he shouldn't have done the last page like this.

Love that cover page. I think the Vinsmoke's should accept their spiritual heritage as ducks.

One thing that modern One Piece unfortunately lacks is the little character moments between the Straw Hats. Zoro and Sanji’s useless bickering being put aside for implicate trust when the situation demands it is always a hype moment, and it’s subtle in this chapter because we haven’t gotten much of the former in a while. Also Nami’s commentary on Brook and Franky being the extreme non-humans they are was peak; on par with Luffy not feeling cold because he’s made of rubber.
