Brook already? They're gonna skip a shit ton, aren't they?
He was part of the Laboon backstory so not technically...?
I've been suspecting Chapter 103 was originally meant to be Brook's intro since the cowboy hat & cloak dude design isn't that far removed from 3-musketeer hat and blazer skeleton. And there's also the constant mentions of wanting a musician on the crew and that Thriller Bark (Brook's debut) was supposed to happen before Water 7 originally.

i think they are just including him in the flashback for laboon as a teaser. i will be surprised if the show actually makes it to thriller bark honestly since in my opinion at least some arcs are not going to translate that well to live action.

Gotta say after all the build up between Usop and Elbaf only for Franky (and I assume Sanji next) to get the power up is hilarious.
I don't think Usopp was to get a major power-up here. Though he might still gain something. What we wanted was more emotional. He wanted to see the famed warrior nation and he got pacifists. Seeing them reclaim their warrior spirits and still accept the lessons in peace was very gratifying for him. They are not the bullies they once were or the wimps that Harald thought they should become to be considered civilized, they are the warrior ideal.

"Si vis pacem, para bellum."

Rocks didn't have a contract with Imu.
Perhaps possession counts as a type of contract. Could be dependent on the strength of the possessed. A contract with someone weaker might be different than with Harald or Rocks. Alternatively, Imu might be keeping those he wants to possess later alive. He wanted Rocks and Harald (maybe less so Harald but he couldn't be happy that he went back on his word and he might have decided to cut his losses) dead.
