Bad chapter. Erasing your own memory to keikaiku will always be a shitty trope.

I do like how Shakka apologized though, that was funny. The fact that good and evil care for each other is funny.
IMO, they understood the limitations of their acting skills. They could not act in a way that would raise alarm otherwise they would have to fight York in an Egghead filled with potential hostages.

And he can't hate Luffy because Luffy helped him get revenge on Mingo.

Luffy has a free pass to accidentally Troll Law for the rest of Law's life.
He 100% can and does.
He just is slightly limited in the things he can do about it.

The odds of Law eventually dying to give Luffy immortality is pretty high, the irony will be that will be if it is a choice not driven by saving the world or Luffy's life but out of a desire of never having to do a Luffy team up ever again.

That why this is frequently a bad trope. We don’t know any of that and and are now having to headcanon why everyone was acting stupid. When there’s a simpler and better way to do all of this. Have them literally find this out last minute. But no, had to do the 10min boiling tea gag when you could have just had Vegapunk recording as he rushes to put the snail inside the robot.

*Law is dying*
Luffy : "Don't worry Law, I will find the One Piece and when I get to heaven I will tell you all about it."
Law : *Horrible realization of spending all eternity with Luffy, Immediately Luffy Immortal JUST to not have to see him in the afterlife*

Imu did the opposite. JoyBoy died and Imu made sure they would never have to deal with that again.

I am not debating whether it is a bad trope or not. It was a plan with pros and cons.

Pros: The ability to act natural for days.
Cons: The inability to adapt any plans you make unless everything goes your way.

Have to say though, their bright idea to wait for everyone to bring out a video Den Den Mushi for 10 minutes was stupid. Not everyone had one in the first place, 10 minutes are more than enough to find ways to jam the signal and the whole presentation could have been twicked to work with audio alone. Of course no one expected the Elders to be strong enough to cause that much damage but the fact that even one was coming was reason enough to assume they would be backed by major firepower. If they insisted on a visual element, then 5 minutes are long enough time. 10 was overkill.
