Funny you mention that.

And if the mods want us on topic….kind of crazy how long it took for One Piece to get involved in culture war Twitter drama.

I blame the live action. One piece is too long for most casuals to get started now, and many don't want to wait for a new chapter if they do catch up. But the live action gave you the basic gist of what the world is like. People who were curious read about it and found 2 characters that seemed to just be accepted as the opposite sex (ignoring that trannies are rightfully portrayed as creepy early on). So now they've become invested

Just wish we could get some actual filler episodes/arcs instead of recap specials.
Still surprised Toei has skipped doing the cover stories, especially since many times they explain why things happen (Jungo, hatchan, cp9, the grand fleet taking territory). Could easily be stretched out to 1 or 2 episodes, reducing the need for slight padding

You think it's going to get worse as things go on?

Not only is it a missed opportunity to cover the need for padding but some of these stories also lead to the return of some characters later on like Wapol, though his story is a rare exception of one thats been covered in the anime.

Is this what they call anime tourism?
It's always the least interesting debate, honestly. Whether it's Bridget from Guilty Gear, Naoto from Persona, the crossdresser from Danganronpa, or Yamato, it's always the same argument from the most retarded opposition imaginable refusing to look at any nuance or even the original material where, in every single mentioned situation, the character in question says "No, I am not (the gender the character is not)" save for Guilty Gear, where Bridget never said once "I am a girl" outside of the Strive translation.
