On Reddit, Kanye superfans finally reach their breaking point

The r/Kanye subreddit is no longer analyzing lyrics — it’s educating about the dangers of Nazism

On Reddit, members of the Kanye West subreddit once discussed the rapper’s discography and tried to interpret his lyrics. They’d joke about his various feuds with other musical artists — Taylor Swift, Drake — and laugh about some of his oddities, but in general, everyone posting on the forum was a fan of the rapper.

That’s no longer the case. Now, members of r/Kanye have transformed the subreddit into a Holocaust awareness education project, part of a reaction against the rapper’s repeated antisemitic statements, which include promoting conspiracy theories about Jewish control and Holocaust denial, as well as repeatedly complimenting Hitler.

“This is officially a Holocaust awareness sub,” declares the caption of one post, which features an infographic on the rise of Holocaust denial and revisionism. (The subreddit’s transformation is not official, despite posts to that effect, but users have organically shifted the focus to Holocaust education.)

User posted a video of bodies being moved into a mass grave at the site of a Nazi death camp and a thread about Krystyna Chiger, a Ukrainian child who survived the Holocaust by hiding in a sewer, and who documented her experience in the book The Girl in the Green Sweater. One post, captioned “Never again,” features testimony from a World War II soldier about the “living skeletons” he saw in the concentration camps.

A post pinned to the top of the subreddit Friday gave users a space to discuss West’s appearance on Infowars with white supremacist leader Nick Fuentes, during which the rapper repeatedly made statements such as “I love Jews. I also love Nazis.”

Nearly every comment on the post expressed horror at the rapper’s blatant antisemitism. Redditors repeatedly begged the moderators to “close the sub,” worrying that it would become a hotbed for Nazis.

“This sub already discussed the f— out of his music, nothing left to talk about,” wrote one user.

But others urged the forum to remain open, to combat the antisemitism among West’s fans. “Let the sub spread awareness about sh-t Nazis did, there are a lot of kids here who can’t even tell u when WW2 happened,” wrote a user in favor of transforming the subreddit.

Even those among West’s fanbase who were not engaged in raising Holocaust awareness urged people to stop supporting him. Jokes about turning the subreddit into a fanpage for artists with whom West has famously feuded, such as Taylor Swift, abound on the page.

“This is now a Taylor Swift Subreddit,” one fan wrote. “We had a good run fellas.”

When the occasional fan attempted to defend listening to and enjoying West’s music, even while criticizing his antisemitism, they met instant condemnation.

“Every time you play his music on Spotify or YouTube you’re putting money directly in the pocket of a self-described Nazi,” wrote one Redditor. “It’s not possible to separate the artist from the art in this case.”

Yeah, I'm not buying this. Let me tell you why:

Last night, I saw the pilot episode of ER and one of the doctors had a black patient who he told something like "you're fine, if I run the tests you want, it's gonna cost you $200 I know you don't have, so just go home and come back if something's wrong," and the black dude sperged that he was being racist and asked doctor "are you Jewish?" This episode is from 1994.

Most of Kanye's fans are black, I'm sure. And the animosity between blacks and jews is nothing new, it's always been there for a lot of reasons. The things Kanye is saying aren't new or unusual for them and they probably agree with him too.

Typically when you see a figure like "63% of millennials did not know six million jews died in the holocaust" its because they worded the question in an intentionally obtuse way and they found an unusually dumb group of people to ask.
There's also the issue that these people assume their surveys are taken seriously. You bet your ass if I got a survey like this my answer would be something to the effect "The Holo what? Gas chambers? Hitler? I thought Jesus was the only Jew?"

Reddit is neckbeard central so this mainly covers his neckbeard fans.

6 million and not 2 million... OMG I didn't know that.. now I'm beginning to think that this holocaust thing might have been bad!!!
JF, the point is that a fuckload of people were murdered! Are they really being this anal?!

That is the most retarded talking point and statistic i've seen in a while. I get the feeling that they asked directly about that number in an attempt to create controversy.

OK, someone is going to have to eli5 Kanye's music to me. In some other thread I remember being told there's some variety and it's not all pure rapper culture, but I'm still shocked to read that allegedly his music was deep and insightful enough to warrant people getting together to analyze it.

Seriously, what is his music and who does it target? What kind of person would sit down and do an intellectual analysis of this man's music?
That was me probably. He's not fucking Bob Dylan. Like he's willing to talk about other topics than money, bitches, drugs, thug shit. But most of it is about himself and celebrity. Ye has been known as a great producer than a great lyricist. A lot of his shit is surface level. Not some Kubrick shit ala The Shining.

From the overall sentiment I'm seeing on Twitter, roughly 70% of his fans are sticking with him. These white soyboys are definitely in the minority.

I once entertained the idea that maybe they weren't 6 millions but rather 5 999 999 and the person I was talking with cracked. They are convinced it's 6 millions like that's a magic number.

The reality is that it's hard to tell and we might never know. It could have been even more, but we are never going to discuss that because doing so would label anyone an antisemite.

Once they hit six million, Hitler personally said okay, we hit our quota, feed everyone now because if there's even one more, Satan will get mad!

Note this also treats Nazi records as if they're infallible, plus apparently Hitler also hired halachic scholars to ensure everyone gassed as a "Jew" was really halachically a Jew, or that Nazis wouldn't just call someone a Jew because they wanted to gas them for something else anyway.

There were actually Nazis who could have qualified as Jews by the loose definitions they used, as well as people who were both Jews and something else who were gassed for something else, and the other way around.

Also maybe some of the respondents actually were Nazis or whatever who knew entirely well they were "supposed" to answer with the famous six million but said fuck you because they didn't believe that to be true.

It's also just one of those signals that you're about to hear a bunch of bullshit whenever someone cites a "survey" and then gives no context as to who was surveyed or what exactly they asked them.

When I have kids I will be sure their first words will be ’six million Jews’ like good goyim.

Do you know what the Russians did to a bunch of inmates at women's camps they liberated? If you answered "Raped them", congrats on understanding the Russian World War 2 mindset.
Also it's called rape of nanking, not rape of... whatever bumblefuck capitol jews were at.

This seems blatantly astroturfed. Also, 63% of millennials don’t know 6 million Jews were killed in the holocaust? Looks like the propaganda is becoming less effective rabbi, gotta get those numbers up.
I'm a millennial, and I could of sworn when we were being forcefed this shit in late Elementary and early Middle school, it was 4 million.

That percentage is inaccurate because it depends on millennials being up to date with the "true and honest number". If you thought it was any less than 66.6 gorillion, you're a holocaust denier.

Black KKlansman is excellent

The funny thing is all he said while wearing his "look at me I'm an anon" mask was that he doesn't hate anybody. If he said it like that nobody would be giving him shit. Did he even write his own lyrics because he doesn't know how to phrase things in a way that people can relate to.
