My brother is a huge Soldier of Fortune magazine nerd, he collects old issues, even uses them when working with defense and weapon companies to build marketing plans. But I never realized how good the reporting was on a lot of shit that we never really hear about anymore. I wanted to share some cooler shit from the January of 1988 issue that I recently read through and see if anyone is interested in a semi regualr post where I break this kind of shit down and we all discuss what current effects we're feeling from these events.
Case in point: Christian Lebanese militias fighting PLA, Syrian and Hezbollah backed armored and mechanized units in 1987. The exodus of the Christians from these areas of Lebanon quickly created a vacuum the would be filled by Palestinians and Iraqi deserters which would then become a prime recruiting base for the PLO, Hez and even AQI years later.
And here we have an article on Spetznaz capabilities that features heavily on reports and events where they illegaly crossed in to Western nations to operate and were caught. Eerily similar to what we are hearing about 3rd world invaders coming across the Southern Border today.
I just think there's something innately interesting about history repeating itself in such rapid succession.
