I use a safety razor w/ brush because I didn't like how my electric razor always left a little stubble behind and frequently pulled hair.

My only issue is that I frequently get razor burn or niks on my neck. Any tips on preventing that? I assume it's a skill issue.
I also use a safety razor for the same reason, and in my case at least, the older I get, the rougher the beard is, and I’d get some skin irritation as well, a change I made that’s maybe obvious to some, is to just let the razor’s weight do its job, and not press into it as much, using short strokes. It’s even better if it’s done after a shower because of the pores, but I usually don’t and it works well anyway.

Together with that, the biggest change I made was to get quality (not expensive, and is long lasting imo) shaving cream that’s specifically for ”sensitive skin”. They do recommend an aftershave balm that’s calming to the skin, but I often skip it.

Some guys could just shave with sand paper and be fine after lol. Depends so much on your skin type.

I've been using a safety razor for a long, long time now. Get a much smoother shave with far less irritation due to fewer passes needed. I've even got the Gillette Slide down. I bought a pack of Gillette Silver Blue blades that I believe were made in Russia, and still have a ton of them left over a decade later. I don't think I'll be running out of them in my lifetime with how seldom I shave. I use Creamo shaving cream and whip it up in a bowl with a brush into a lather, then apply it. Works super slick.

Does anyone else fully disassemble their razors between shaves? Seeing some stuff about people just rinsing them out and loosening the handle if their razor is a 3-piece. Once left a blade in my main razor and there was some rust on the inside of the cap. Thankfully some barkeepers friend dealt with it, but the idea of not taking them apart hasn’t crossed my mind since.

I recently got a job that requires me to shave so I found the old fashioned safety razor I had bought years ago, on top of that I got one of the mugs and brushes for old fashioned shaving cream. The reason I did it was partly out of being frugal and also to reduce the amount of trash I produce. Anyone else doing this? Because you're a sucker if you're buying the proprietary blades the megacorps overcharge you for.
I'm not a poorfag enough to not be able to afford proprietary dispossable razor blade cartridges today...

And if the apocalypse comes then wouldn't it kill the vibe if I didn't have a scraggly untrimmed beard?

I do this. I find that if i get them screwed too tight i can't get a clean shave. I loosen then a bit and it works out great

I actually learned on a straight. I have my great grand fathers with real dead ass elephant ivory handles. Now I use it as treat, but normally I do my shaving in the shower with a safety. Just keep blade sharp it's easy as pie.

To the OG feel, my old job we always got a "shave" at the fancy old place, they would do the whole "Al Capone" feel you'd get a scotch, listen to Frank or the rat pack they would talk sport and shave you. Back when I was there it was 50 bucks. But man you felt like the boss.

While I can shave with the straight, it's kinda a ritual treat. No matter how master you are it's a process. I can shave my face like a baby, in the shower no gel etc with a clean blade on my safety. So for day for day I do that.

I've seen lately on safety blades they change mfg. So I keep grabbing the "starter" kit from amazon Second Arrow makes good ones I buy 100 they suck... etc. So I'll just buy a bunch rando cheap toss the bad ones.

I’m partial to Personna blades myself. Their newest ones are kind of pricey but effective.

I use an old fashioned AC powered foil type shaver. The people that complain that it rips hairs don't know how to use it. The hairs aren't supposed to be long in the first place, they're supposed to be 2 or 3 days growth long at most. If they're longer, use a hair trimmer first to shorten them, then use the shaver. Also go slow and angle the head towards the direction of movement, and move against the direction that the hairs point, so that the foil hooks and pulls the hairs away from the skin.
