Marx was a trust fund baby who had no idea what he was doing. In all seriousness, Marx critiquing capitalism is like writing a strongly worded letter against heroin to combat your life-ruining addiction and calling it a day after injecting some more. Even if you correctly identify heroin as doing anything in this situation, you'd be so comically wrong in your execution of solving it that nothing of value could ever be saved from it in the wake of the 5 other things you break or screw up in the process.Karl Marx's criticisms of capitalism are largely correct but in practice communism doesn't work because utopia will never be a thing.
In particular, Marx's materialist focus just plain breaks his follow-through by fiat given human beings do not respond entirely in terms of material conditions. He calls religion the opiate of the state simply because he doesn't understand what religion even is for humanity and so calls it an opiate pretty much as a snarl word. Without the materialism, all of the other things he wants to build off of just fall apart, and it's one of the reasons Classical Marxism is a dead ideology. Without a class rise up after WWI, he was one of those doomsaying prophets a day after doomsday having not predicted doomsday, meaning you need revisions. Take your pick between Gramscian subversion, Leninism, or Sorellian co-option of tradition on the road to classical fascism, but at this point, you have ceased being classically Marxist.
