Now this is a weird fucking thing to make a thread about I know, but I need to get this shit out somewhere after I discovered the most insane case of weird bullshit in the Mario Kart World OST. I'm not really awake now due to being on 2 days no sleep again, so bear with me if this isn't too clear.
There's also a dog barking in my ear in a way that's splitting my skull open right now as I'm typing this out so if anything's more repetitive and shit than usual it's due to the triad of fuckery going on right now offsccreen. Anyways, I wasn't initially going to make a thread abotut his but figured i would given I was recommended to. Alright, now let's get to business.
See, every once and a while you'll get a batch of songs from a game that hasn't had a proper re-release or remaster in a while get a bunch of tracks dribbled out over the years in a faithful enough manner to the source yet slightly new enough that you'd expect it to be from an HD remake. The issue? It's not from a remake. It's from a fucking spinoff game where they crammed in in the OST This has been a thing happening in video games for some time now, especially Nintendo ones for some reason. The fortune Street OST in particular is infamous for being full of shit like this. Thing is, fortune street and a number of much more recent games share the same deal of "boss intro cutscene music faithfully recreated in the HD cover but with no dramatic boss intro where it appears". This is a running theme through these. I'm not just talking about boss remixes here, I'm talking about full on "this could be used in a remake but they didn't for some reason" territory.
Yes I know kirby's adventure had a remake (nightmare in dreamland for the GBA) but the only thing that wasn't just a soundfont swap was fountain of dreams being replaced with the melee gourmet race theme that plays on the stage. There was also the co op game that cam out a little while after this one where nightmare WAS the main bad guy and they DID use a remix of his theme but it wasnt this one and it did't have the cutscene intro so it doesn't count for this thing I'm showcasing here.
Now, the reason I started this thread.
Mario Kart world has the entirety of the Mario 64 soundtrack in it for some reason. (sans the title theme but that's a remix of the main mario theme anyways... and the final bowser. )The only one that's been tweaked to a "racing" vibe is bowser's road. The rest are literally just arranged versions you'd have expected in a switch 2 launch title of a Mario 64 remake or some shit.
I was going to link all of them but people have literally made playlists of them so i can just link that.
I think the weirdest one here that firmly pushes this into "remake OST that got shafted" territory is this one that clearly adds a sound that evokes the same feeling of shooting down a pipe into the metal floor of an arena at the start of the track.
Well, That, and the fact it's literally just a Mario Odyssey-ified version fo the N64 bowser theme. The Mario Odyssey Bowser theme is also a blatantly intentional structural sibling of the N64 bowser theme to begin with makes this very very odd that this is in a Mario Kart game of all fucking things.
Mario kart world is full of these for some fucking reason it's not just Mario 64, but mario 64 is the one that specifically has enough that leaves you wondering "why the fuck didn't they just remake the game at that point?"
So yeah, feel free to poost the vidya OST remakes that are somehow not tied to actual remakes or whatever. I'm going to go and try getting back to doing the stuff I was trying to do before my brains got fucking scrambled by high decibel sounds surrounding me for the last half an hour.
