Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

To be fair the sack of Troy being portrayed as being quite brutal and vicious even beyond the standards of the time was a thing in the original texts too and the prominent Greek participants of the siege being punished by the gods in various ways for their conduct during it was one of the major themes. Seeing as how Nolan mostly removed any mention of the gods, Odysseus suffering from overwhelming guilt over it makes sense as the next best thing to convey that.
Well, not entirely, Athena is in this and pissed off at Odysseus for killing one of her priestesses during the whole destruction unleashed by the Acheans after they got out of the Trojan Horse.

culture warriors suck so much ass. from one side of their mouths lefties will complain that majority rule is inherently fascist because of muh drumpf, then from the other cast something they agree with as the majority take and therefore correct. every single one of these motherfuckers has made themselves an expert in gaslighting and doublespeak just to score points for their gay little team. who cares that the movie made money? retards love slop and gleefully line up at the trough every time there's a fresh serving. anybody who thought a high exposure movie like this wouldn't sell tickets is delusional. also lmao at the "im terminally offline" guy inserting himself into gay twitter drama while dropping the word "rightoids" sure faggot, nothing online about that behavior at all.

self-identified "nerds" (i.e. redditors) would absolutely debase themselves for this but Evangelion is too niche of a franchise to draw blockbuster numbers. maybe the Nolan name would give it a bump since he hasn't driven it completely into the ground just yet (give it another 10 years) but I think most normal people wouldn't care enough to be interested. also, he would absolutely butcher it to the point of unrecognizability.
A Nolan directed and scripted Evangelion would kill his career. Best case scenario is that he plays the concept straight but also only focused on the first couple of episodes (essentially remaking Rebuild 1) and removed Shinji's demons, troubled relationship with his dad, and for shits and giggles, merges Misoka, Rei, and Asuka into an INO version of Rei who friend zones Shinji in the end. Completely missed the point of the entire fucking thing and Nolan making damn sure no one else can do a sequel.

Worse case scenario is that Nolan throws everything out and produces an INO skin walker version of the show that goes out of its way to defile the franchise and how the original and rebuild was sexist and not relevant to the woke new world order that Nolan is now committed to building.

For anyone wondering why the cast is african and diverse the translator for the odyssey is a jew.

/tv/ is now in peak shill mode. I mean like actual Indians and disingenuous retards. There is a culture war aspect and /tv/ does have various discords raiding it for pay, ideology, and because they are pedophiles.

The initial leak threads were fun. Now it’s paid trolling and bait posts.
I know that Disney and Amazon are notorious for outsourcing astroturfing on the internet but have any of these companies that are used been doxxed.

I know this is made to make fun of Nolan but Gibson was just as wrong in different ways with Apocalypto. He kept mixing up Aztec and Mayan events/stories/cultural tropes all over the place, and worst of all, the movie ends with the Spanish showing up which makes absolutely zero goddamn sense when they weren't due to arrive for 500 years and the Spaniards at the time were still up to their necks in Umayyad bullshit.
Apocalypto takes place in 1502. Christopher Columbus' fourth and final voyage in 1502 ran up the coast of Panama to Honduras, stopping many places along the way. It's seems to be Columbus' ships at the end of the film, since there are 4 ships shown and the guy on the lead boat looks like Columbus.

It's inaccurate in that Columbus never actually landed in the Yucatan, but he did meet a trading band of Mayans on canoes from the Yucatan just as he passed north of Honduras, which is probably the inspiration for the final scene.

If Nolan wanted to do a story about war making monsters out of men and PTSD, he could've just shot a generic war film. Maybe one about the Thirty Years War' or something.
Admittedly that's what I felt when watching it. It's not that the movie is uniquely horrible by any objective metric. It has a lot of style at times and it's clear that care went into making it, but the message falls kinda flat and you might just as well watch Come and See or a similar movie that does what the Odyssey tries to do better.

EDIT: I think I forgot to mention but one of the reasons why the underlying message fails is because the violence in the movie is... neutered. It's strange because it's rated R so I can't imagine that ratings played a role in the decision. Most of the violence (apart from the cyclops) is distinctly neat and un-bloody. It doesn't throw endless brutality at you like a typical war movie.

No one ever said this wasn't going to have two good weeks, but the budget and marketing are so insane, what I have said is that it will not make the $800 million it needs before Spider-Man.

Also it is not doing well because everyone is seeing it, I am still seeing that the theater in my area is mostly empty, it is doing well because the people who are seeing it are paying an arm and a leg for IMax tickets, that is the trick here and I think that is the real reason Nolan pushes Imax so hard, because it is a con he can pull where he makes it look like he has two or three times the number of fans he really does and thus big up his ego.

This doesn't make it to $800 million, and Spider-Man will blow pass it and have the biggest opening weekend of the year. In fact I think Spider-Man is going to open bigger than Avengers and Spider-Man is another movie I am not watching because I didn't like the trailer but it is what it is.

Última edición:
How TF do you verify if the audience reviewer actually watched the movie?
Do they go into theater with you and toothpick your eyelids Clockwork orange style?
Through the Fandango app. Fandango Media owns RT now btw, with Versant (a Comcast spin-off) and Warner Bros owning Fandango Media. It's had issues with audience votes appearing/being bought/manipulated for well over a decade, assume nothing is genuine on there.

FYI, The Odyssey is made by Universal, which is also a subsidiary of, you guessed it, Comcast.

The two executives in charge of RT also used to work for Disney.

So yeah, everything is fake on that site.

Weren't the Indians Alexander the Great encountered Buddhist instead of shiteating izzating hindu?
Well as far as we know they were mostly ones who follow religion which would later become Hinduism. But in the aftermath of Macedonian invasion new Empire (Mauryan) rose which was Buddhist. And it eventually unified most of India.
Indian saaars can't help themselves, but keep catching Ls.
One time in thousands of years of jeet history. India is unified by someone who is not foreign invader. And it must be Blady budist benchod basterd

What about literally every other outlet online that also says it’s great? Outside of the usual chudslop grifters of course

It’s funny how you guys say the 100% positive reviews for this are all from shills but ignore that literally the richest man in the world has been on a crusade against this movie for months. And no one cares
