Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

The cyclops looks like Mr. Frog’s Dad. The people in the thread edited it, but it is where my mind went to.
I spit out some of my breakfast when I saw it

Wait for whoever sat through this shit because they had the time or whatever.

Do they show Argos? Odysseus’s dog that basically loyally stands guard (or tries to) and basically dies with Odysseus having to deny the dog the chance of reuniting with his master? It is the archetypal “dog waiting for his master for years” and a metaphor for how shit Ithaca has become.

If it doesn’t have the dog, which basically makes you cheer for Odysseus killing the suitors and maids, it’s a shit movie.

This will show Trump!

This movie is so intentionally subversive that I'm surprised there wasn't a Trump reference, but maybe there was and people are pretending not to see it like how they still pretend the president in Civil War wasn't supposed to be a reference to him despite the character wearing a red tie and making ridiculously grand pronouncements.

Is this supposed to be Odysseus driving away penelope's suitors?
That's the great part of this movie I have no idea what the hell anything is supposed to be in relation to the epic itself. Like who the fuck are the big metal giants with tree magic?
Probably the Laestrygonians.

Look at Ellen's tiny, dainty hands

THE greatest warrior that ever lived!!!1 :story:

Going back to the imax thing, why doesn't Nolan just shoot his movie 1:78:1 or even 1:85, or give us the big square IMAX cut on a second disc instead of slapping bars over half the image? It's not like The Odyssey is just going to sit at your nearest IMAX for the rest of time so you can watch it in all it's glory whenever you like. It's getting a month at best and then it's gone possibly forever. Why even waste time shooting in the format?

It's worse than that, Spider-Man is taking the Imax screens in two weeks.

He went to all this trouble for two weeks of showings!

The real question is do they have an "Ar-gos fuck yourself" joke.

Nolan ballwashers malding that this is the most support they can give. https://archive.ph/SpUgz

So Nolan omitted the "Nobody" sequence with the cyclops because it did not translate naturally into modern dialogue. https://archive.org/details/the-penny-dreadfuls-present/05-Odyssey.m4a This a ten year old comedy audio version with the Cyclops sequence including the Nobody wordplay starting 8 mins in and ending 16 mins in. A comedy troupe found it super easy, barely an inconvenience yet it stumped the great intellect that is Nolan. Maybe Nolan ain't the genius his acolytes continually say he is. Oh, and especially for those who would have liked a Monty Python version, the whole thing is worth a listen as are their other historical comedy adaptations (Revolution set amidst the French Revolution is rather dark at points though).
