Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.
Kinda poetic -- maybe in an ancient Greek tragedy way -- that the book that movie is based on uses fake art that is supposed to be from a different and earlier civilization.
I'd be fascinated to learn what Nolan and co were thinking. I haven't given a dime to Hollywood in 10+ years and the filmaking looks catastrophically retarded even to me. yet he completely throws that logic out the window in virtually every other area. Like... the poetical "blazing bronze" from the Iliad is a very evocative and powerful image that would've done some good here:

He essentially equates the state of things prior to the Sack of Troy to a mandate of heaven, one shared by the Greek nations and thrown away when they snuck in and killed their enemies.
That's the rub though, isn't it? For those that don't know, Nolan is trying to subvert thelaws of xenia (neighboring hospitality laws meant to maintain order corrupted by libs to mean open borders bullshit), but the laws of xenia go both ways. They were broken first when Paris kidnaps Helen (doesn't work well when she's a exotic slave bauble allegory negress) and violates the guest side of the laws, so it's Zeus's mandate to go fuck their shit up and get her back.
The Trojan horse is based on the host side of the laws where they are supposed to give departing guests a gift, the gift in this case not being the horse but the sack of Troy in return for violating the cultural laws and mores. It is distinctly a just course of action that they signed up for to carry out the mandate because others broke it, not them.
Nolan is basically saying let people (read: niggers and immigrants) walk all over you when they do you wrong and refuse to act like civilized equals, just throw away pride and tradition and culture because it might harm people (read: niggers, feminist foids and trannies) in the process, including Odysseus himself. It's also stupid because in that time if you showed weakness the foreign neighbors would get together and destroy your country, aka present day Western world.
Nigger Helen? Don't focus on anything about her character in the source material, she's just a Black body passed around like a toy against her will by the patriarchy. Pooner Achilles/Sinon? Wholesome chungus son and greatest soldier evah genocided for political frivolity by WHITE MEN. Pooners can't be portrayd as scheming like the ancient propaganda character Sinon is, but we also can't let the chuds see her replace the great hero Achilles.
Circe might have been good if it wasn't tainted by the fact it's a 'vilified woman' shaping them into the white male pigs they are as revenge instead of just being an badass evil witch. Gods? Noooo, that would mean there's an outside force pulling the strings and the audience will sympathize with the nationalists instead of seeing their great white hubris when nigger Athena shames them with a frown. Unironically this is tokenism, good job Nolan.
It's clear this isn't for the Oscar bait anymore (duh), this is an intentional commentary tool to be used by the insitutions to propagandize and subvert national unity and induce white guilt against taking action to honor your homeland. Drag him by his ankles to the tiger pit.

There's a video of Ellen Page running along the beach, looking as hilarious as you imagine, and the scene looks like it's straight out of Dunkirk if it wasn't for the pooner in cheap-looking armor.
And yes, it is spite. Hollywood hates Western civilization, and every casting and directing choice when making this abomination was made to maximize the demoralization potential.
Don't give money to this garbage and to Nolan ... I watched some parts of the cam rip, it's not even "so bad it is good".

Ended up finishing it, actually, because I was curious how it would continue to be bad. I'll start with, I read The Odyssey in school but barely remember it, so I only have a vague recollection of the bigger details. This movie does little in the way of trying to tell the viewer who isn't intimately aware of the details what the fuck is going on. It's visually dark and muddy, but the bootleg is so washed out that any soul the image might've had, just isn't there. So can't base too much criticism there.
The editing, especially early on, is just extremely bad. It levels out as the movie goes on, but even then a lot of the combat scenes, or just general "thing is happening" scenes, are still edited in a choppy way. The pig transformation scene is good, and the other elements that lean on that horror-like tone are decent. Action choreography twirls between laughably bad to middling choppy shit. Sets are kinda just there. Very much a muddy background fodder for poor dialogue to be spoken over. Overall message is weird propaganda, as I really don't remember the "our civilization is bad" message from my reading of The Odyssey, but what do I know?
Ellen Page (post death) is actually decent, and the frog voice is only slightly noticeable. Ellen Page (pre death) is frog voiced and bad and playing someone half her age (lmao lil dood) The other DEI shit also was just there to take away the feeling of this project being genuine. Every time the arab dude who said "We're Greek" was there, or black Helen were on screen, it just felt like I was being subjected to seeing them out of spite from Nolan,
Overall music/soundscape of the movie was decent and felt pretty on point with the editing, as spastic as it could be. Only real complaint would be the mixing of the bass-y elements and how it would drown out voices. Don't get to know if they did that epic rap in the credits though, cause the cam cuts off at the start of the credits.
TL;DR: Shit was mid. Not worth hype or money. Casting is distracting and oscar-slop
