The number of people who think 100% of the money from the box office goes back to the studio and that movies are cheap to make and market is mind blowing.
As I have said many times before, this movie is doing exactly what we predicted, that is opening big but not big enough to make the studio that funded it a profit, Nolan and Imax didn't pay for this movie so it doesn't become a hit just because they collected a lot of money.
This is all media spin, only ten to thirty-five cents of every dollar is making it back to the studio. If movie profits worked the way people say they do for this movie then Ghostbusters 2016 was a huge hit and would have gotten sequels, as would Rise of Skywalker, Dial of Destiny, and many many other films that stalled out the series they are part of. Why people think the way films make money for their studios is different for this movie then for every other big studio movie is beyond me.
The big thing everyone ignores is that every week this is out the non Imax theater take an extra 5% of the box office, the studio gets less and less money the long this movie is out, that is why most studios pull movies out of theaters and onto streaming after about a month these days, they are not getting enough money back to make it worth keeping the film in theaters on their end.
I guess some people are invested in believing everything the corporate media says and that is why there are people who believe last year's Superman was the biggest hit DC has ever produced. I am done pointing out sense.
See ya when the books are open at tax time and Universal is writing this off as a loss instead of paying taxes on the massive profits everyone thinks it has already made.
