Seems to be the trend these days for "early access syndrome" to be responsible for lack of release content, but this didn't even have an early access release for the general public
 
You gotta play the game with the music off but sound effects on and mix in your own soundtrack from old 70s synth albums like Jean Michel Jarre's 1976 Oxygene LP. Then the game becomes like playing this amazing trippy video game version of reading an old 70s sci-fi novel.
 
The flight model is pretty simplistic. That's kinda disappointing. Game itself is neat overall though

I don't know why, but steam games are much cheaper in other regions such as Russia and China. I usually only pay half price for games. I got NMS for about $25

Yeah I got it for $20. That's how much I would have paid for it anyway.
 
I bought a PS4 for this release. The game is so flat but the console is awesome; I'm already on to Farcry 4 and other games I missed out on thus far this gen. However, for me NMS is one of those "never again" moments up there with pre-ordering, FTP hooks and MMO's. Sucks that this had to happen to this game, I really wanted it to do well and be a decent space exploration sim that others could iterate on. All Sean had to do was, say "no" at a few key moments, but dude has no spine and he lied. Took the easy way out.
 
Eh, it seems like the kind of game I'd like, roaming around and exploring things. I'll pick it up when it goes on sale in a year or two.
That said, the Hype Train/ Disappointment Derailing is pretty fucking funny. That's like, what, the third time this has happened this year? Mighty Number 9, Dickbusters, and now NMS.
 
I know you get to look at cool shit, but what else is there to do besides that? It looks like it would be boring after a couple hours. Maybe I'll buy used
 
alright, i never paid any attention to this game (the hype, etc) so I went into this game not knowing much. I read some reddit posts but ofc its reddit circlejerking so I took it with a grain of salt.

I have an i7 4690k (4ghz), 16g ram, a 970 (my 1060 is coming today) and SSDs and it stutters badly at times. Otherwise its honestly not bad.

IMO the game isnt bad, its just... shallow. I don't enjoy that the "quests" just point me at aliens on a planet or ship and they just hand me exactly what I need, ontop of occasionally i need to go laser some trees/rocks to get a minimal amount of material for fuel/what have you.

Otherwise it's not bad. Its relaxing to wander around lasering materials and collecting. It just feels shallow (coming from someone who plays a lot of ED/Eve). If they add more content and cut the price I'd be more happy and play a fuckton more. (I played 10 hours already)

edit: though tbh the monsters are so ridiculously spore-tier it kinda makes me autist rage when i see a new randomly generated one. So lazy....

It's consumer economics 101. You price the product for what a given market will allow for. Better to make some money then just having them pirate all of it.
 
I'm enjoying this so far just chilling out and wandering around. It's basically what I was expecting: a cool tech demo without a lot of actual gameplay. I would love to see this kind of concept fleshed out more with Witcher-style quests or ELIE-style space trading mechanics.

Biggest issue is that the price seems pretty steep for what you get. It's a AAA price for an indie game experience.

No problems running the game on my PS4.
 
While this game isn't worth $60 and I don't really understand why the dev lied and hyped up so many features that were never going to be in the game at launch, I do enjoy it quite a bit. It runs beautifully - I've never had stuttering or FPS drop on my midrange build. Runs consistently at 60 or higher. No crashing so far. I love the music and ambient sounds.

In general, I enjoy games that put emphasis on exploration - so of course I enjoy just kicking back, running all over every planet and finding every waypoint, animal and plant to discover, rename and upload. I've yet to finish the "main quest" because I'm really just having fun with the exploration.

However, I agree it's shallow. There's simply not enough to the game. It has a LOT of potential. I've heard it picks up the further you get into the mission, but imagine if it had true multiplayer, real combat, an actual trade system. I'm holding out hope that with updates and dlc it could be that game, but it probably won't with sweaty barefoot dev at the helm.

Well, I'm glad I told the random beacon my broken ship spawned next to fuck off because it sounded like a tutorial. Turns out I was actually telling the Atlas faction to fuck off instead.
