Disaster Nintendo pauses much-anticipated gadget due to Trump's tariffs - muh switch 2

Gamers will have to wait a bit longer for one of the most anticipated consoles of 2025.

Nintendo just announced it is pausing the preorder of the Switch 2 in the US as it attempts to adjust to President Donald Trump's tariffs.

The company previously announced it would launch the pre-orders on April 9.

'Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,' the company said to The Verge.

'Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.'

The company says it will still offer the gaming system for $449.99.

In order to keep the consoles at the same price, the company will have to eat millions of dollars in previously unknown costs.

Switch consoles are mostly produced in Vietnam and China. Both countries were slapped with 'reciprocal' tariffs by the Trump administration.

All products produced in Vietnam must pay a 46 percent tariff rate while products from China have to pay an additional 34 percent.

The tariffs came in much higher than economists expected, sending the stock market into a tailspin on the uncertainty.

Nintendo revealed the redesigned console on Tuesday, the same day that President Trump held a massive press conference on the White House lawn to announce the higher-than-expected tariffs.

The tech company is joining a list of brands adjusting to the President's policy.

Everyone keeps bitching about this and it's retarded. That's how much every console is at launch, and they should take advantage of the retards who must have the latest gadget.
Game prices seem high until you look back and see that they basically haven't raised prices since the 90s. I paid $65 for Pokemon stadium for N64 when it came out, $15 over 30 years seems reasonable.

The last Nintendo product I had was a game boy color, so I'm not a Nintendo autist, I just find this argument stupid.
The two consoles that came out before this (PS5 and XSX) are drastically more powerful and this has been the case forever. The Nintendo Switch 1 was also drastically underpowered compared to it's peers and had a really hard time playing some of it's own games. All consoles aren't equal and shouldn't cost the same because they all play video games.

This is on top of Nintendo being semi-famous for having hardware problems (Switches overheating, unfixable controller drift, Q&A issues) and tons of worthless SKUs (the Switch, the Switch with the better Screen, the Switch that's only the screen, every "limited edition" switch) and now leaning on an entirely new "gimmick" for the console - with people not fondly remembering Street Pass/Wii Motion Controls/Wii U Tablet Mode/Switch JoyCons - has a lot of people looking more critically at Nintendo.

It's also the biggest price hike of the major consoles ($150). Sony jumped $100 from PS4 -> PS5 and Xbox stayed at it's current price for XB1 -> XBX.

One of the major things that Nintendo had was "The consoles aren't as powerful, but they aren't as expensive either" - now they're not as powerful but are just as expensive is going to get some people asking "what's the point" - doubly so if games for it are going to be comically expensive ($90) coupled with Nintendo's stance of "No sales, no rereleases, no digital library".

They should charge as much as they think they can get away with, but some of us think that charging too much is going to hurt them in the long term and trying to compete with PS5/XBX/PC on price is a tall order when a lot of their first party games have not been great in recent memory.

And yet the switch was one of the top selling consoles of all time. 90% of buyers do not give a single fuck about stats, if they want to run Mario and Zelda they will buy the switch.

Nigger just buy a gaming laptop or build a PC. You can pirate anything, you got steam, fuck, with the power of a HDMI cable, you can plug it into the TV. YOU DONT NEED THE SWITCH 2 WHICH IS BASICALLY A 4060 GRAPHICS CHIP.

There's probably, I'm very sure, methods of just getting GOG games on there. DRM free which means no constant internet connection. And you own the games after the servers go down.
Heroic Launcher. You can use it to download/manage your GOG/Epic/Amazon games on Linux and it even has an "Add to Steam" option under Tools so you can launch them from the Steam Deck UI.

It's also the most powerful handheld on the market and has it's own exclusive library of very sought after first-party games.

At $299 (or $199 if you have a Switch Lite) + $60 per game, most people said "fuck it why not, I like Mario/Zelda/Pokemon/Whatever" - but for $449 + $90 per game it becomes a drastically different value question.

Too bad they're going to do the opposite. And you know it too, you can't just put on one face in Games and another in A&N.
In Games I said they need to drop the price too. And there's no way they do the opposite and raise the prices.

Do I think they will drop the price? It's possible, they did with 3DS, but they didn't with Wii U. It's unlikely they will, but if it flops fast and hard then it's definitely something I can see it happening. There's a lot of negativity around Nintendo right now, we'll see how it correlates to sales soon enough.

Games in the 90s cost quite a bit due to using cartridges. To do those you needed plastic casing, the rom chips, and at times batteries, physical items whose cost could add up.

Now a lot of games could be sold digitally for a lower cost and instead some companies want to cash in as much as possible by charging as much as what a physical game would have. Nintendo probably could lower its costs (if we ignore the tariff situation) by relying more on digital sales, but they're old fashioned and greedy so eh.

I hope the Trump government shuts down the income flaw for Nintendo users. Be it trannies on welfare, or useless eaters working in government jobs. And the company finally gets the economic catastrophe it deserves.

Might be the wrong place for this but how long of a window do they have before emulation kicks in?

Most people in my admittedly small group that has a switch pirates their games or boots it off a pc or steam deck.

Nintendo always has shit hardware to the point its rarely the best choice use.

We won't know until hackers get their hands on the system. It seems like, tech-wise, it isn't just an upgraded Switch so probably at least a year. And thats just for emulating games, for hacking the thing and putting pirate games on it that will take even longer.
