I'll miss the little guy. I just hope that franchises that were primarily based on DS/3DS aren't relegated to the trash now like Layton, Ace Attorney etc.

Layton probably won’t be since they remastered Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy on the Switch, which shows they’re probably testing the waters to see whether they continue the franchise. Who the fuck knows what’s gonna happen to Ace Attorney though, I heard they were having difficulty with the potential of getting The Great Ace Attorney translated due to the fact that Sherlock Holmes is in it - Arthur Conan Doyle’s estate is notoriously royalty-hungry and really likes taking people to court for bullshit copyright claims even though Sherlock stuff is public domain now. There’s also the fact that the previous game was fairly niche and didn’t sell very well so it might not even be worth it at all from a cynical business standpoint.

I hope Nintendo makes another Style Boutique game for the Switch...

The L and R buttons on my 3DS from 2011 became unresponsive, the B button is getting dull, and the camera isn't working well. I must've used the thing more than I realized. My DS has a battery life issue. And my GBA SP still works fine - no big issues.

(the older the system the longer it lasts lol)

I personally hope Masahiro Sakurai takes another break from Smash with a passion project in mind for the Switch. In the break between Brawl and Smash 4, Sakurai and his team created Kid Icarus Uprising, easily my favorite 3DS title and one my favorite video games of the 2010s.

It will probably be the best Etrian Odyssey and Monster Hunter (with XX) machine for years to come. Have no regrets even with certain franchises gone downhill.

I love my DS and 3DS including my GBA collection. I still remember getting my white DS with Castlevania Portrait of Ruin and that DS heavily worn out for the years I played on it. I thought Sony PSP and Mobile gaming would end the DS/3DS but they never could dethrone Nintendo. With the DS/3ds library of games of 15 years plus emulators on the 3DS I will still be enjoying the 3DS for another 15 years.

You might have to open the 3ds and clean the buttons. if you have the first 3ds the shoulder buttons are a bitch and the ribbon cables easily tear when opening the system. Warning you after my frustrations trying to deal with the shoulder buttons.

Another thing that sucks about the 3DS dying is how there's no console with a stylus as standard anymore. I really liked using a stylus, it worked perfectly for Trauma Center and Elite Beat Agents, and the drawing apps like Art Academy were fun.

Digital styluses like the Note phones have aren't even close to commonplace, sadly. Nobody designs games for those. The next Nintendo system should really, really have one.

There were some games that did the stylus well but it reminds me when the DS first came out games were oblitaged to have some touch feature when it wasn't needed like Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and having to draw a seal to defeat a boss or have to fight them again.

Man, I love my 3ds. Putting cfw on it, and being able to rip my games to the SD card, plus emulators, and such... 3ds had a good run. I had to get a couple 2ds for the little ones, so they could kill each other in Mario Kart.

Between the R4 on the original DS, and cfw on the 3ds, I won't be too disappointed if this is kind of the end for major handheld gaming.

It's pretty impressive it lasted this long. It was able to still sell units despite having barely anything released for it in the last few years. I would always recommend the system, it's cheap (Doubt this will last. Thanks retro gamers!) and a massive library that included the original DS games.

My favorite game on the system is Mario Kart 7. Good times.

I'm also guessing we'll be seeing a 3 pack of Ocarina, Majora, and Twilight soon on the Switch. At the very least digital versions.

To me it had tons of good obsure rpgs so it will always have a soft spot to me, i knew it was dying eventually but i say after the first 2 years drought i'm glad i bought the thing.

I had an original 3DS I got around 2012. I don't really use the 3D and I had wanted to get the New 2DS XL. The announcement that they were discontinued kicked my ass into getting one. I looked around and I couldn't find one anywhere. Not the Wal-Mart or EB games near my house. Not Wal-Mart's website. They were marked the fuck up on Amazon and eBay. Nintendo was selling refurbished ones, but my credit card wouldn't work on their site for some reason. I finally found one at a local Wal-Mart where they had two left that weren't listed online for some reason. If you want to get one without paying a retarded price online you better get you ass in gear.

The DS system is up there with the SNES in terms of my personal "best system ever". There are so many good games on the darn thing and the library is all-encompassing. You've even got a ton of very unique games that are good and that cannot be emulated effectively or remade on other systems. I've been using a New 2DS and have thoroughly enjoyed it. And having owned every make and model of the 3DS series, I can say without a doubt that the New 2DS variant is probably the perfect version of the system assuming you don't give a shit about the 3D feature.

Grab one while you can. And grab a spare, too.

-monster hunter 3/4 ultimate
-fire emblem conquest
-etrian odyssey 4/5
-steam world heist
-Bravely default/second
-kid icarus uprising
-the professor layton saga
-mgs 3 (never played the ps2 version+I enjoyed the free camera)
-the mario and luigi rpgs on it

I had a great time with the 3ds

Ace Attorney never really needed two screens, and the first three got ported to everything. Plus, isn't that franchise the most popular visual novel in the world?

I hope his people playtest the control scheme more, whatever this next project is. I love Uprising, but I literally cannot play that game beyond a single stage because it fucking hurts, with or without that stupid stand. What was that virtual monstrosity Nintendo had that required a tripod? Didn't they learn from that shit?! Didn't they learn from nobody except tiny-handed fuckers like myself hating the N64 controller?!

On top of all that, half of the controls for Uprising were just straight-up unintuitive. Stop innovating for innovation's sake, Nintendo. That stylus is NOT held like a mouse and the DS is NOT pressed or held like a keyboard, so that idea for "having more control over the aiming" was shit from the start. And as an old fogey with eyes turning to crap that just wants to sit and play, I really, REALLY hate turning my screen every which-way to aim; the gyroscope is garbage and WAY too sensitive. If they port that game to Switch, PLEASE just do what Assault did and have regular controls, for fucks sake.

Oh, who am I kidding. Nintendo probably has a mandate that demands all major titles make use of their gimmicks, and it has a touch screen. It would probably be a 1:1 port, bad controls and all.

We will never see a system like the 3DS again. In fact it was a miracle it did as well as it did in the first place considering the mobile flood was already underway when it launched. The Switch and its aping successors/imitators will be as close as it will ever get in terms of traditional handheld gaming, and even then it's just not the same.

A salute to the 3DS, the last of its kind. :semperfidelis:
