I have noticed that in the last few years every single brand of potato chips has a acquired a dill pickle flavor, but most of them are super vinegary which really is too bad since the flavor is good with less acid blowing out your buds.
Now the fried dill pickle flavors, those seem to be the shit since they mute the acid a bit.

What IS with the pickle obsession? It's pickles everywhere now, in every form, the flavor of every other food and drink, even candy, I've seen individual packets of one (1) singular pickle sold at bodegas and sometimes they're in the juice of some candy

I've noticed it both in real life and online for at least a decade. It was their "obsession" before they all seemed to discover charcuterie as a new personality add on about two years ago.

No idea, I don't see a big trend of charcuterie "suddenly" becoming a big pop thing, at least no more than other fancy stuff like wine or classy dishes, sure maybe some people think it makes them all fancy to like that stuff but I didn't observe a particularly large boom in this specifically being a poser thing

My main issue with those combinations is that they almost always use subpar quality ingredients, so it wouldn't be a pepsi with full on pickle juice but a pepsi with water with a slight pickle flavor somewhere in the background. The same thing as with espresso tonic- amazing drink, but you have to use something marginally better than crappy, sugary, barely bitter Kinley
Companies do this shit to play it safe, but if that's their goal then why come up with wacky pairings at all?

i guess all possible interesting food ideas have already been tried because every new meme food i see is just "brand name snack/drink + other popular flavor", most commonly of another brand name
oreo flavored coca cola, coca cola flavored oreo, coca cola flavored doritos, doritos flavored taco bell, taco bell flavored kraft mac n cheese... it's all companies know how to do nowadays, nobody is coming up with exciting new flavors, we have access to nearly every natural food ever discovered in the modern world, you could advertise durian flavored chips or chocolate and sesame seed soda or something novel like that, but nobody wants that, they just want already popular snackfood flavored snackfood

Absolutely love the pickle popularity. Spent time in a part of the world where malt vinegar is on every table so the strong vinegar is a positive for me. Salt and vinegar but with a little more seasoning. Wonderful.

Did we discuss Koolickles in this thread yet? They are common in gas stations in the south east, mix up some kool aid in a pickle jar, put the pickles back in, sell them for 50cents or whatever. I tried a few different combos and chopped them up for a cheese plate a few years back. I enjoyed them despite my guests riffing on me for making them.
