Oh, I can see a host of possibilities. Maybe he finally got violent with his aunt or someone at his outpatient group (be it the young girl he's been stalking there, or a caregiver). Maybe, like Pixyteri, he made a self-harming statement around the wrong person/people. That alone would get him a 72-hour hold.

The thing is, Nick is from a town across the nearby river and has given no indication of familiarity with my town. If he walks one way, the neighborhood isn't terribly bad; it's full of little medical and chiropractic offices (and oddly the AA/NA program I mentioned), and eventually you get to a university. Weed at last! But if he walks the other way, attracted by a cemetery we have, he gets to my neighborhood, which is heavily Puerto Rican and has a small but stable black population. I wouldn't begrudge anyone an ass-kicking if he walked in and dropped some ethnic slurs just to keep up his "lovable idiot" persona.

I'm thinking this was probably a voluntary psychiatric hospitalization. It's hard as hell to be committed involuntarily.

In any event, this is nothing but good news. Nick's exactly where he needs to be . . . away from everybody else.

For a few days, anyway, if he's to be taken at his word.

Shit, I hope his aunt or somebody remembers to feed his cat. Nick may be a blight on humanity, but the cat hasn't done anything wrong.

As Pickle said, there really is only three ways to get committed, either voluntarily, or you either have to prove (usually by stating) that you intend to harm yourself or someone else, in which case you can be forcibly committed.

My guess is someone, a relative probably, got fed up with him and told it to him straight that he was fucked up and should go commit himself and he went along with it.

Apparently he got out on Monday.

Well that sucked.

I just finally got released. I'll LJ all aboot it next time I'm online but basically I got royally screwed over

I linked to my new one not too long ago. Anyway, I was in therapy. My therapist told me to write aboot hoo I'd do a mall (tbc)

(cont) shooting and be specific aboot hoo I'd get a gun. I did so. Boom, she called Crisis Intervention. Involuntary hospitalize

Yeah my b-fam was a bit irked aboot entrapment but I mean it wasn't intentional

The good news is that a girl who looked EXACTLY like my wife flirted with me which I take as a good sign aboot my wife

Those are all from Monday. He's been pretty active on Twitter the past few days, but it's mostly just boring shit.

Gah, his "aboots" and "hoos" get on my fukken nerves.

He sounds a little incredulous at his being hospitalized after going into detail about a mall shooting idea, which I find funny for the darkest reasons.
However this individual does worry me and I think he does need to be kept there for far longer.

Girl who's completely unrelated to his "wife" flirting with him is taken as a good sign about his "wife"?
What.
What sort of logic is that.

.....Please don't answer that. Just don't.

His therapist told him to write about how he'd shoot up a mall? What kind of horrible therapist is that?!

EDIT: Wait, a girl is flirting with him? Does she have eyes? Or, for that matter, a nose? Gah, so fucking much.

I get the feeling that he might have been the one to mention it, so I'm guessing the therapist asked him to write it out (to determine if he was serious or not?) and the fact that he essentially had it planned out was what set off the alarm bells.

I also get the feeling that the girl was just nice or polite to him and he took it as flirting.

Yeah, I was wondering why a therapist would ask someone to write out that kind of thing.

I have a feeling that the girl that was "flirting" with him was probably just the kind of person who's nice to everyone they meet, but Nick being who he is thought "She was nice to me, therefore she wants me to shove my dick into her ass!"

I hear doctors these days actually look up their patients, I guess it makes a lot of sense for a therapist to do it. If she saw all those death threats, she probably wanted to be sure if he was actually going to go through with a mass murder or not.
Why she thought simply asking "how would you kill a mall full of people" would work is anyone's guess, but I guess she knows Nick better than we do.

I was a bit worried we'd never learn the details behind Nick's psychiatric hospitalization.

Well, I shouldn't have worried. Nick, once again, proves that there's no low that he's not willing to stoop to.

"Entrapment" my ass. If somebody asks you how you would carry out a mass murder, the correct, sane response is "what? No! What kind of psycho are you?" and not "well, first I'd . . ."
