New Year's Resolutions

Seeing as the year is coming to a close in less than a week, does anyone have any resolutions they'd like to share for 2014?

Mine is to establish more long lasting relationships with others

I have several goals for 2014, but the ones I'll mention here:

Get a job when I finish my job training in pharmacy tech

Go to the gym at least three times a week

Study Spanish and French regularly

And like Dr. Cuddlebug I want to make more friends.

The usual: Get myself back into shape, make better grades, make more friends, etc.

Seriously, that's all because it's a realistic goal I'll stick to.

Like you I have several goals that I would like to mention:

-Get a job while in college, I need to make money and gain experience

-Do better in college so I don't end up doing what could be a repeat like the last semester(being a average student and passing a class with a D+) while also remembering that my parents won't be disappointed that I didn't reach some high expectation, also relaxing while I strive to do better. If I get worried over something related to college, I'm just going to hurt my grades and possibly my confidence.

-Try to join the military, most likely the Navy.

And as you and Cuddlebug would try to do, make some new friends or at least some new acquaintances.

Get my gun collection built back up.
See my friends who live far from me. Namely Liquid and Kacey. I've been wanting to see them for years.
Maybe get another motorcycle. I miss riding.
Do some camping and ride my ATVs more. I didn't get any of that done in 2013.

My only one is to get a job that isn't night shift. I've been working nights for 6 years... I'm tired... so very tired.

That's an awesome aspiration. Even if your plans change, thank you for even considering it.

As for me:

--Lose another twelve pounds
--Get enrolled at the University in town for the summer semester so I can start working on my Master's degree and get a teaching certification
--Try to get involved in more home improvement crafts and be more pro-active when it comes to household chores
--Read more classic literature

I also want to learn manual skills, and thought about welding, but I don't know if I want to do that right now.

Reading better has been kind of a revolving resolution for me since 2009. I made this resolution that year, and the same year I went through Frankenstein, Slaughterhouse Five, One Flew Over the Cuckoos's Nest, Catch-22 and many others. I've discovered my favorite books this way.

It's not a resolution of mine, but each year I was in high school, I did make it a point to read more and that usually meant reading more obscure books rather than classics. Albeit I still haven't read many classic works and will gladly crack one open when given the chance (currently on Cujo by Steven King which I got as a Christmas gift).

I'm definitely not a fan of Shakespeare. Read a lot of his plays, but I guess the way the media thinks everyone needs to know of his works in some way shape or form made me bored when I read the actual plays. Had much more fun reading poetry in high school.

I read a book by a linguist who suggested reading Shakespeare in modern English because the Early Modern English Shakespeare wrote in is now more or less a dead language. In fact, Shakespeare is more popular in foreign languages like German and Japanese because they are written in a more readable translation. I found a series of books that have the original on one side and modern English on the other side, so I'll try that for now. I have Macbeth and Henry V right now so I'll see how it goes.

I have a couple of books that I spent money on that I really need to read for personal enrichment. The Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost and The Tempest are amongst them.

I've read the Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost in high school. They're great books. I hope you have the Portable Dante for his works or another annotated version or you're going to have a hard time understanding them.
