The way to go is somewhere between these two extremes. I watched the series, liked the Geralt plot thread, hated Yennefer's, think the series could use with less black people and I am laughing out loud they chose a black woman to be the brainwashed murdering maniac.

I highly doubt it will be the next GoT. And I believe Netflix told a bunch of people (as in paid employees and shills) to sign into the game on Steam in order to boost the player count to generate hype.

That'd be a pointless waste of money. Is it so hard to believe random normies would see the title, remember hearing about that acclaimed video game series, and pick it up on a whim since it's cheap and came out almost 4 years ago? Or that CDPR would realize how this is basically free advertising and take advantage? C'mon I get being suspicious but this is giving a retarded amount of importance and malice to something as simple as one streaming service trying to boost its numbers by filling in the giant hole in HBO's roster.

And no, I really don't think it will be the next GoT. I don't think the next GoT will even be fantasy.

Do we know if these guys even earned any achievements in games because they could just be idling on the menu?

Ever since companies started tracking these things we've known that most people that buy a game never come close to finishing it, and a very large minority never really does anything with it. That'd be business as usual, so it would be hard to tell. To put some numbers to this, on the GOG version of the GOTY edition of Wild Hunt, only 61% of people that bought the game found Yennefer. A few whole hours in the game. That's unironically fantastic numbers. Most games don't keep people interested that long. I'd imagine people that bought it on GoG are more likely to be engaged with it than people that got it in a Steam sale, but I don't have it on Steam. Can I even check achievements there?

I liked the show a lot, but to clarify, I have barely touched the games and not read the books.

Cavill is a fantastic Geralt, and the way in which he interacts with the bard as well as the early Monster-of-the-Week format evokes memories of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. I don't like Yennefer a lot, but I get the impression that comes with the character; backstory was fine but she's still somewhat of a bitch.

Could really feel the Blackface vibe in the forest, but it wasn't completely insufferable. In truth I was more bothered by Triss's gingercide overall, and it's nice that one of the big bads was black as opposed to it all being Whitey's fault.

So, would I like to see more? Absolutely, provided they improve on what they've done so far and tell a good story without descending into socio-political stupidity.

Triss doesn't have red hair in the books. Yennefer is the one with the overbite. All sorceresses transform themselves into more beautiful women, which is why its hilarious they chose an uggo for Triss.

Was Triss allergic to enchantments/alchemy in the books too? It’s been a few years since I read them and can’t remember if that was just a conceit to show you how potions worked in the first game.

She can't ingest magic so potions are an issue but she can still use magic on herself in other ways.

I've gotten through the first half and so far I'm enjoying it. It was treading thin ice at first but I feel like it found its stride with the second episode. The timeline stuff is a little fucky though, and I'm not sure why they decided to go that route

Getting into the series also prompted me to finally buy Wild Hunt, since I'd been intending to do so for a while. I can see where Cavill is getting his inspiration from.

Sorry, but I really need a place to vent about nu!fandom that's already created itself around the Netflix franchise and that makes me feel glad I got over being fan of the Witcher books in the early 00s.

It's frankly the first fandom I actively feel that influx of new people is a bad thing. But anyway. Maybe any one of you will lol as much as I did.

They did try in books at least and it's explained exactly why it didn't work (because women have different genetics and endocrine systems. Triss even told Geralt to stop spiking Ciri with steroids to grow her muscles, because it will hurt her...), but I see those ppl totally ignoring (or knowing jack shit of lore) as seen in #witcherlass. Can I point out how boring all those design are and how clearly they are fans of aesthetics and not the lore? Like it's plainly stated that only Geralt had white hair...

It's canon that 8 out of 10 HEALTHY boys didn't survive. Witchers didn't even pick the unhealthy surprises to train, I think. And besides - there is magic that is capable of hardcore plastic surgeries, so my best guess, if somebody could afford it, they would just ask the court wizard how much would it cost to enable the child.

I think Ciri was somewhat considered a witcher, because she was the last person trained in the witcher arts and she calls herself that at some point. But she was very singular exception and still slightly above average human, not mutant.
