I finished my first run through of this last night and will likely watch it a couple more times. I always miss things the first time.

  • Disappointed with Churchill's funeral. Not sure why this was so brief unless they are planning bigger spectacles for Lord Mountbatten or Princess Diana.
  • I had never heard of Aberfan. All around great episode.
  • Agree that they are way too nice to Lord Snowdon. I have to wonder what was going through their heads when they wrote that birthday dinner scene where BRF took his side over Margaret. I can't picture them doing this.
  • Way too little on Princess Alice. She did so much more than just charity work. She hid Jews from the Nazis during the war. She was a hero and I bet they'll never mention her again.
  • Raise your hand if you have ever been Philip's co-pilot. Now punch him in the jaw.
  • They have really played Charles out to be some kind of woobie. This is only going to get piled on when Lord Mountbatten dies in the IRA bombing.
  • I also don't like how they played Charles to be ignorant of the circumstances surrounding the abdication. You would think as close as he supposedly was to the Queen Mother she would have given him an ear full about that.
  • Princess Anne is funny as hell but they should have included the kidnapping.

Co-sign. They really make the Queen out to be an idiot in this, though. They also left out Anne's wedding but included her in the Parker Bowles drama like LMAO wtf? Anne is more than Charles and Philip's sidekick.

The Mounbatten coup stuff was interesting but I'm not sure how much of that is true.

I thought Lord Mountbatten had refused to participate and that was why they hadn't gone through with it. When he was going through explaining all the reasons why it probably wouldn't work, I thought that was what they were building up to. Then he started with that stuff about the queen being able to dissolve parliament. I know he did that in other places but I just don't see him doing it where he lived.

Precisely. And according to the historical accounts, both he and his assistant basically laughed King out of the room and left. There was not enough there for an episode, which could have gone to Anne instead.

The Diana years will become the layout for the final season? Are there any other remarkable events after that?
The early Diana years are next season. And yes, there are plenty. The Queen's Golden and Diamond Jubilee's, Windsor Castle Burning, William's wedding, the change to the House of Lords, the London Riots, 9/11 (Blaire's entire administration is interesting, really), and the queen's current Annus Horribilus 2: Electric Boogaloo (currently in practice).

All right, gonna put some thoughts here as well:

  • I actually prefer Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth rather than Claire Foy (although I really liked her in the role), mainly because I can't help but think there are a lot more nuances and detail to her performance. I hope next season awards goes well for her, because she deserves it.
  • The Queen and Wilson's interactions were easily one of my favorites in the season. I actually prefered that Queen/Prime Minister dynamic to the one she had with Churchill - mainly because you felt like they were "almost" on equal footing, since the Queen appreciates Wilson for his refusal to bullshit around her and tell her things as they are.
  • Philip actually got some nice character development in this season - it actually made me like him more since he really got on my nerves in the first two seasons.
  • I'm so happy Helena Bonham Carter got out of Tim Burton Hell, because she's really a fantastic actress. Her performance as Margaret was stellar.
  • I preferred this season's Queen Mum - still a very flawed person, but the season 3 characterization was a lot closer to how the Queen Mum really was in real life than in the previous seasons - since I felt they were a bit harsh about her before.
  • Maybe I need to rewatch the season, but I didn't feel like they were too sympathetic to Lord Snowdon - apart from the Aberfan episode. This said, it is true he was one of the first Royals to get on the site of the disaster to take photos, not to mention you'd really need to have a heart of stone to not react like he did. Apart from that, I thought he was a raging asshole to Margaret (which is something, since Margaret clearly had her own set of problems) and I wanted to kick him in the balls. Good riddance.
  • Speaking of the Aberfan episode, it's one of those that honestly deserve a film of their own (along with the episode in season 1 about Churchill's portrait). They did an excellent job at making the audience care about the villagers in a very short span of time.
  • This said, as @LordofTendons said, I really don't see the Royal Family taking Tony's side over Margaret's, especially if he's cheating on her and they know he's acting like a douchebag with her. I guess the birthday scene was to highlight how isolated Margaret feels, but I don't think it was well-done and had several people acting out of character.
  • I just wanted to pick up Charles and wrap him up in a blanket. I'm also glad they probably won't go for the Saint Diana narrative in the upcoming seasons, since they presented Charles and Camilla in a rather sympathetic light.
  • Princess Anne was the best character this season. Erin Doherty was a perfect choice for the part.
  • Count me in as being pissed they didn't talk about how Princess Alice helped Jewish familes during World War II - or even not talking enough about Princess Alice. That woman was a hero.

I got a book on Princess Margaret. Has not arrived yet. Was she really a hard drinking party girl rebel type?

I'm ready for season 4 aka the Diana and Thatcher season

If they don't make more seasons featuring the Coronavirus fiasco, they're the biggest bunch of fools I'll ever know. This is extremely juicy shit we're witnessing in history rn.

They'd never have it but a reference to the infamous celebrity filled Grand Knockout Tournament and the subsequent postgame hissy fit/"please clap" moment by Edward.

A competition featuring Kevin Kline, Jane Seymour, Sheena Easton, John Travolta, Margot Kidder, Tom Jones, and Meat Loaf, amongst others. Fucking legendary and bad.

She banged Warren Beatty and Mick Jagger. Once, when she was asked how the queen was doing, she replied "Which queen? My sister, my mother, or my husband?"

It truly is one of the great moments of stupid. It's unfortunate that the royal social media wasn't around in the 80's. Ed and his brothers would make terrific cows.

Última edición:
How much do you know about Dickie Mountbatten, the character he is playing in the Crown. Because that guy practically shaped the modern royal family.

I know that the show's memory-holed the fact that Mountbatten was the Royal's very own Epstien. A massive pedo that was besties with Jimmy Saville and sourced his victims from places like Kincora boys home that operated a pedo-ring for the rich and powerful.

Season 4 is up on Netflix. The torrent is slower than steam off of shit in January right now so I haven't started it yet.

Man, the budget this season is something else. The cinematography gets better and better every time.

Gillian is killing it. This is without a doubt one of the stronger seasons. Its the best its been since the first season by far

I love how after Season 3, everybody suddenly loved Charles, but after Season 4, everyone's started spitting poison at him.

I'll need you to fill me in, brits. As a non-brit, I know best not to watch these shows for historical accuracy. Having said that, how good is the show's balance between dramatization/historical accuracy?

Been meaning to watch it since anything with Olivia Colman is great stuff.
