I have no idea why the live-action adaptations go into the post-apocalypse setting, i think its a deep down urge to be groundbreaking in the way 28days later was and they do this by... making dereivitive 28 days later fan fiction.

Say what you want about Umbrella's heath and saftey procedures, they have contained every single outbreak in the games without fail.

So when it comes to RE live action, is welcome to Raccon City better or worse then this garbage (haven't seen either)?
This show looks so fucking awful.
We need to put our trust in our true lord and Savior, Paul Ws Anderson! Only he can save us now.

This show is miles worse than Welcome to Racoon City. That movie was pretty low budget, and did change some details, (and had a weirdly Carlos looking Leon) but it had more heart and soul to it in terms of being connected to the games. Especially the sets, they have the police station, for example, which looks spot on like the one from the games. And the acting was better too. This show has sunk the bar so low, its deep in the Earth's core.

Me and my fiance have been making our way through it. It's VERY funny but in a sort of, tiktokers / zoomers are cancer kind of way. Wesker is the only decent character in the show but, and were on episode 4, I've said multiple times video game Wesker wouldn't tolerate the shit that those annoying teens put him through. Anybody remember when he beat the shit out of Claire in CV? Nah. This is good boy Wesker.
I actually really enjoyed Welcome to Raccoon City, there are changes, yeah, but that actually felt like a love letter to the games. This show is pure dogshit and is a good example of how not to write dialogue / characters / scenario / anything in TV, funny tho.

Netflix making Wesker a black guy is such a weird move. The character is a supremacist that believes in eugenics and basically wants to create a master race. Race is never explicitly mentioned as a part of it but couple everything together with the stereotypical Aryan appearance and that's some strong and intentional nazi coding. How the fuck do you bring on a black guy to play the nazi. That being said them making him a nice guy dad with 2 daughters he's loving and supportive of is the bigger crime.
I can accept them doing their own take on RE but this is dumb and one of the occasions when race really matters for a character.

Finished it. It's dumb and I would not waste the time again. But it's far from the worst thing ever done especially by Netflix.

The dialogue is drek by and large. That Covid reference someone mentioned upthread? They do at least two of those. Much like Zootopia porn it's the sort of dialogue I would never have expected to make it past any sort of quality control. Frankly it should have earned the writer a smack in the mouth. There are lines that get a chuckle but very few if any of them come from any of the main cast.

Lance Reddick could have been good as anyone but Wesker. His performance is solid throughout even if what he is being asked to do is at times stupid beyond all belief but the actor is more than capable in whatever he is asked to do. Putting aside the side splitting hilarity of the Blade outfit we learn very little about original Wesker and he rarely gets a chance to shine.

Evelyn isn't actually that bad of a character. Of them all she comes closest to being interesting and the whole drugging her wife into compliance with pills that use a degree of the T-Virus to function as super anti-depressants is the exact thing I could see the average Umbrella upper echelon doing. The dance is one of the stupidest things in the whole series. I'd have probably had her acquire an addiction of some kind or another of her own.

Some of the effects are pretty good. The main issue the show runs into, besides my last point, is that it cannot commit to taking itself seriously or not. At times it does B-movie crap all right. At others it does tension well. Any arguments about the plot requiring the cast to be stupid a LOT are justifiably responded to with "it's Resident Evil, of course the cast do stupid stuff."

There's a number of decent performances with the various side characters. Clearly there are competent actors doing their best with what they have been given.

The problem. The big problem? The main two characters, the daughters, are the focus of the entire show. Every single other character is doing very little except as it relates to the plot of those two and any development they get is entirely related to the daughters. Both of whom are putting in average performances at best but when you add the poor writing, utterly unlikable characterisation and that both are black holes of Mary Suedom to a hilarious degree means that the show as a whole could be improved beyond belief with their removal.

TLDR - it's not worth wasting your time but it's also not funny enough to be worth watching nor Netflix Cowboy Bebop levels of the world being a slightly worse place for it existing.

The guy that wrote the 9/10 review for the show got clowned on by a Vtuber and is crying about it online apparently.

I’ve been told both the Vtuber and the Kung Fu guy are minor lolcows, but I think they came out pretty well in this instance.

Make fun of me but this series was so terrible I went and watched all of the Resident Evil movies with Mila Jovavich again just to get it out of my head since the games aren’t an option right now and they’re free on Hulu.

As those movies go on they progressively turn into hotter wetter garbage (after the second one), but at least she’s nice to look at and there’s action unlike this failed abortion.

Eeeh...thats debatable on the looks part, like the movies always try to show off Mila as this bad ass, but that chick is so skinny I just cannot take her seriously, heck in the 2nd movie where she fires that shotgun with one hand, I swear she should have flown away like a Looney Tunes character.

Wait, if the Wesker in this series is a clone of the one that died in the Volcano in RE 5 why is he a nerdy black dude?

I know TV writers aren't particularly intelligent but they should know how cloning works right? I mean it's been a sci fi staple for almost a century.

Gotta disagree with Charlie on this one. I think it IS one of the worst shows ever made, even if you completely take it on its own merits and not as an adaptation of Resident Evil it's a fucking awful show on every level. The dialogue is all so "How do you do fellow tiktokers?" when it isnt the completely insane meme moments talking about 4chan and zootopia porn. There isnt a single character who is likable, almost every character is actually annoying. None of the action is good, it never really feels like horror, or action or anything really, it's just sludge
Like too many series original to streaming services these days, the writing feels nonsensical - events happen because It's In The Script, with no rhyme or reason, as if the script for each episode is written by a dozen different people who are not allowed to communicate with each other and who can only guess what everyone else is writing, and the whole mess is submitted for approval without any editing.

Is Lance Reddick decent? I heard he was the best part.
He is okay. But he is still given a shit script with inconsistent tone. And he has to deal with the leads (the sisters) a lot which is basically trying to get something done while being in a pillory. I would gladly have watched the show without them in and he is part of that.

In their version he always was a black dude. As to the nerdy side he also was always one of the scientists in this version too.

I always found them to be total shit. Partially because I never thought Milla Jovovich was attractive, and partially because she played a non-existent character that was portrayed as better than all the actual Resident Evil characters.
