I jut want to sperg about how mid the new neomerch is, i found the old 6inch faerie talking faerie plushies on ebay awhile ago for a steal. Then i found out they did new merch and bought a draik faerie the quality is night and day. I'll have to take some pictures but the draik plushie is smaller and just kinda ugly which is maddening because draiks are cute. In comparison on my similarly size 20 year old faerie grundo plushie (i bought that one for my daughter) is adorable.

I figured fuck it and used the Dress to Impress tool online to make the theoretical version. Saving the picture does not keep it animated so it looks like a mess in the static picture, but here it is in it's beautiful, ban-worthy site-accurate version. Had to take some liberties since there was no flaming aura I could find quickly, but the DBZ style power aura sells the illusion in the context, I think! Might have to click the play button to start it's animation there.
I think that for a Pokemon clone/competitor this game had great potential that it never quite reached. Cute mascots, many quality mini games, and a surprisingly interesting lore for a kid's game, despite being a literal land of taking animals and fairies.
That being said I am surprised people have stayed to this for game for so long. If you are a kid I guess you can have fun with the games and taking care of your pet.
But I can't be the only one that thought the whole economy was super grindy and a huge time sink. If you wanted a special brush or item, you had to grind for an unreasonable amount of time.
I genuinely don't get why people didn't get frustrated with the whole economy aspect of the game. Just buying a good Pokemon game is much less of a hassle and would respect your time far more.
Best way to make money back in the day was reselling items and then buying/trading Nerkmids/Neggs or buying stocks until you snowballed into being a millionaire, then you collect 100k+ daily from bank interest. Now you can just go on the neopets subreddit and if you ask real nicely someone will give you 10,000,000 NP to "start off with." There's no point in grinding games to make NP. There's a reason why there's a Wheel of Extravagance that costs 100k per spin. It's easy to make NP.

Its still a bit grindy, but they've removed the need for extremely rare paintbrushes or impossible tasks now. There is events for Faerieland where you can get dips at the rainbow pool for free meaning all those rare and cool looking pets are now achievable.
I got my faerie lenny and Desert Kougra that way, not to mention the ability to get a draik egg from the dailies fairly easily is great. There is still a huge amount of botting but it's just for fun stuff now. I just play sakhmet solitaire all day now.

I wish they kept it like it was before, it was sorta refreshing not having that shit shoved in my face. My kids really enjoyed it when they were younger.

Ya know, I might as well Neo-power level a bit because who else am I going to talk to this about? During Covid lock-downs I was bored and looking for things to do and I heard about the imminent shutdown of flash and it made me think of Neopets so I ended up trying to get into my childhood account which I was able to do... without even needing to message support! I was looking through my stuff and had like 100k in my bank... I was surprised I save that much, I must be rich (spoiler: I was not, in fact, rich). I decided I'd try playing a few months and that eventually just turned into a daily habit I've kept to this day. The main problem with Neopets as a kid is you don't have the patience to stick with anything, but even just checking in for 10 minutes or so now I've managed to get a whole lot done by being consistent.
Neopet's current userbase is... well, pretty much what the rest of this thread is about are not the kind of people you interact with on almost any level. The only time I put in any more time is during events and in 2020 because I had the time due to Covid I hit All-Star which I never had the patience for as a kid. Apparently people can see you status because next year I got a Neomail inviting me to join the Team Krawk Island discord because I hit All-Star and I thought why the fuck not, let's see what's going on there. There fucking icon of the server was a member of the team in gay flag shit. I remember one of the newest messages was something like "Everyone here is so fun and gay~!" and I didn't wanna deal with that so I left and didn't interact with others anymore. Now I just settle for like once a year texting my brother who also played as a kid being like "Look how much NP I have in this irrelevant former children's game now swarming with cat ladies!" so I never talk to anyone about it.
The meat of the game is probably what we could call and idle-game these days, so just being consistent is really all you do to watch numbers go up. I'm actually not too far away from my goal of reaching the bank integer cap of 2,147,483,647 from compound interest, daily quests and food club bets for 6ish years. I recently spent like 100 million, which is like the first time I've ever spent money instead of just saving it.
I've used that money to make my old pet God-like which is what I was all about as a kid... despite then not knowing how stats work then. They only increase tangible power in multiples of 50, so as a kid I probably only ever had like one stat above 50, none of the to 100 for sure. There's also a cap for everything except HP I don't remember... but there where was a year where I did kitchen quests daily which can award random stats so I'm way over the cap for ATK & DEF.
I also ended up trying to get every trophy... and I did get most of them. Impossible in it's heyday, but doable now with it's greatly reduced playerbase. Even max zoomout I can't get them all... got over 200 of the buggers, only missing like 3 or 4 flash games, plus some odd ones like the NeoQuest I & II which one day I'll put in the time for... maybe. I also did this before they implimented Ruffle to make flash games work again and you had to do some plug-in wizardry to get flash running.
But yeah... I like to play this stupid outdated game. Other people trying to get their gatcha waifu in some mobile slop or getting their firemaking to 99, but I'm out here doing Jhudora's quests instead (and no, she's not a lesbian despite how much the new site owners want to force her to be).
