I'd honestly consider trying to create something that aggregates charity donations and indexes who made them, then cross-reference CEO's, celebrities, and other high-profile types. That way we can create webs of trust to ensure consumers are only giving their money to people/organizations they find ethically compliant. Not because there's money in it; because I find it funny that companies try to appease the crowd with [X-Month] events, and knowing that the hysterical masses would take it way too far and either get these companies to play fuck-fuck games, or finally have the companies tell the masses to shut up and eat chicken.

I want this.

I think it could easily become a mess and a problem for companies, giving ammo and a reference to crazies outside of ResetEra. But the benefit would be watching their options dwindle to nothing. It could also give the right a list of approved companies so maybe it will balance out?

It should be easy to get added to the list, and almost impossible to be removed from it.

Back during GamerGate, KFC got added to the block list due to a bizarre chain of guilt by association. Star Wars got woke and went broke, but it was all for nothing because Mandalorian didn't have enough women and minority lines in the first episode.

It's almost as if laughing at completely absurd shit is way easier to maintain long-term than continually trying to paint a picture of "gamers bad" is.

I'm not one for assigning motive, but Shitty Gamer Takes has made it pretty damn clear on multiple occasions that its operator is completely convinced that gaming and gamers have a "problem" - that the motive behind the account is a desire to change things, not a desire to simply pull up stupid shit and have a giggle at it in public. The whole enterprise reeked of motivated reasoning, with every instance of someone saying something stupid being painted as reflective of bigger issues in "the community" (a thing that frankly does not exist for gaming as a whole; we have thousands if not millions of separate communities) for the sake of messaging, instead of just standing on its own as humorous idiocy.

(For the benefit of the ResetEra members who lurk here out of paranoia: before you take this as an indictment of what we're doing in this thread, I remind you that you actually are a single community, under scrutiny not simply for the stupid things its members say - and there's proportionally a lot of stupid there - but also for the structure of its moderation system, the behavior of its staff, etc. You deserve every ounce of criticism and mockery tossed at you. And even at that we're still in the habit of acknowledging when individual ResetEra users have made good points, something I doubt you'd be willing to do for any of us.)

The other thing about the Gamer Takes account is that right after a puff piece article, the account's user got caught using their clout to bully someone they had beef with in high school. Keep in mind that the article confirmed that Takes was in her late twenties meaning she was using her position to get payback on a decade-old grudge, which just made her entire account come off as less "highlighting toxic elements in the gaming community" and more "Oh you're just a bully and now you're looking for a way to keep doing it while getting attention."
