I really really fucking hope that it wouldn't be changed for "modern audience".

It's a reboot in the sense they want to break away from the movies.
I'm cautiously optimistic. The sheer amount of cuts they had to make in order to accommodate the novels' length was kind of sad, but at the same time the likes of Alan Rickman et al are so ingrained in my mind it's unbelievable.

The books were actually quite a lot longer than the movies so it could change the pacing and story structure significantly. Not sure if they'll stick the landing but it has some potential.

I would hope for the opposite, if they make it a series rather than movies, they can stick closer to the books (at least starting with 4, a lot of things were changed/removed, though I haven't seen the last ones).
So hopefully it would also not be modernized, since it canonically takes place in the 90s, so no present day bullshit.
I really hope JKR would not allow any changes, including all the fate shaming re all Dursleys.
And I know and understand how attached people are to Rickman's Snape, but he could also be more accurately portraited according to the books, starting with the age of him and his peers (James, Sirius etc).

Know who I'd like to see as Snape? Tom Ellis. They'd need to grease the shit out of him for the role but his work in Lucifer makes me think he can nail some of the necessary work. It's the heavier emotional stuff I think he might struggle with but the casually cruel to children he might be able to handle.
In a tangent I stumbled across an old (5 years) Reset Era thread where they're discussing a fictional character who blames racism for his motivation publicly but when called out on it admits that in fact he's never personally experienced it. Instead he's just a racist himself.
This is one of the first posts. No bans for Islamaphobia or anything
Now yes, they are largely wahing about Trump but still. And this is one of the replies (both posters remain unbanned on the forum)
It's a short thread and it still has the modern Era "waaaaahing" we all know and love but less than half a decade ago some of the posts made would never fly today.
