Tranny notwithstanding, I'm quite happy with the Opening so far. The Liberté segment is very impressive, and Alexandre Kantorow playing Ravel's Jeux d'eau. How can I complain?

Le voyage dans la lune and then...Minions? Fuck them.

They have a whole segment for Féminisme? I give up. I go to sleep.

Niggers, faggots and trannies.

So, this is the best France has to offer? DeGaulle, Napoleon, Louis XIV, Charles Martel, Roland and Charlemagne are rolling in their graves.

I dunno, I might believe you if you told me this was the Tranny King who spawned all future trannies.

Did anyone else see the bizarre start of the Olympics opening ceremony where a shrouded figure from the catacombs coaxed young children into a boat with the torch?
Looks like the start of a terrifying movie.
Despite being weird, it had the merit of being interesting to look at. However it does not "fit" anywhere else from what I've seen. All the others bits were pretty much lame shit you'd expect from modern day french media.

People thought of predictive programming following Covid because of the London show where you had hospital beds and nurses dancing surrounded by figures representing death.
Maybe you'll get an answer in the near future.

They had another shrouded figure on a pale horse leading all the nations' flag carriers, too, and as the faceless rider on the pale horse rode, angel wings kept popping up behind him.

If it's predictive programming, WWIII is up next.

so did i miss anything by not watching? anywhere to rewatch it?

I just had a thought, did they show Durandal? Or would showing that sword be considered racist? I would not be surprised if they replace it with a dildo.
Charlemagne was a piece of shit anyway. idk why he's held up as the best of european history

There were some nice moments but overall very bad.

Easily the worst from the last 20 years
I stopped watching halfway but it was nowhere as bad as London 2012. At least the French paid homage to high art and culture; the Brits were totally obsessed with cheap pop trash like Harry Potter, Mr. Beans, and One Direction. If memory serves the 2012 show was just as racially enriched. Rio '16 had good concepts but ran out of money, so the second half were anticlimactic. Tokyo 2021 was meh; their Closing were better.

This is the dumbest ceremony I can remember watching. Although I didn’t see London’s and heard that was garbage so…

This opening ceremony sucks. I just want to watch all the countries go by on their boats. Is that so much to ask?
They didn't even show Bhutan's boat on the World Feed because they cut away to a fucking Lady Gaga cabaret bit. What an absolute shit's how.

Edit:

Wrong. London actually managed to show all the teams on telly, and was therefore better. Also they didn't call South Korea the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea".

An even bigger issue is that they show all the events during the evening in the US, so if something big happens in one of the events, it will be spoiled hours earlier. They treat the Olympics like a TV show rather than hundreds of sporting events, which it actually is.

To answer your question, during this Olympics I have a smart TV (with ROKU OS to be exact). I'm hoping to add international broadcasters' apps and watch some coverage through them.
During the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, I remember hearing an NPR commentator say that he got fed up with sycophantic American coverage, and switched his satellite feed over to the CBC, only to get the same thing from a north-of-the-border perspective.

I didn't watch the opening ceremony, but I heard that some of the things in it were WEEEEEEEEIRRRRRRRD.

This is because the Olympics itself is pushing "inclusivity".
I thought that was what the Gay Games (yes, they do exist!) were for.

I watched the athens 2004 today and it had so much soul, the statue bit was amazing and it went from all greece history from the minoans paintings to greek statues to christian art and beyond.

And you could feel the passion and respect for the country, I believe the opening ceremony should introduce your country, things that paris wasted 3 seconds then showed some fuckaroo dancing for minutes.

It was simple next to the ones after but was executed masterfully and it was very memorable.

Now this? What a disaster

Not a single reference to Charles de Gaulle. What a fucking joke.
