I've just finished reading the first chapter of Connor Thorn and the Film Reel of the Cosmos and this part caught my attention:

Connor had an extensive family tree with several much more responsible relatives readily available, and even if he didn't a regular babysitter would be more trustworthy to watch their son than an abuser like Grady, who lived miles away from their house anyway and wasn't even the most conveniently located guardian available, so there was absolutely no justifiable reason whatsoever for Connor's parents to have chosen this awful man to take care of their boy, they were just that stupid.

Please, tell me there's another reason for his parents to let Connor stay with this man, anything better than being stupid parents.

Also fun fact, Moleman was offered a crossover with Gary Gears, a little Megaman/My Life as a Teenage Robot inspired project created by an irc friend of mine. Moleman agreed to do it and the Multiversal Puzzle Box was supposed to figure in into the crossover. He later changed his mind however because in his mind, Gary Gears was inferior to the Nava-Verse (we suspect that the real reason was that Moleman didn't trust my friend).

Again, I thank and give a degree of credit to for the idea of including robot characters from another dimension. Despite his shortcomings, without him, this story, and the Mecha–Verse, would never have come to be at all.

I think I remember Gabe saying that he jumbles together this nonsense and searches it with quotes on Google until he finds nothing. Somewhat clever, yet also a really ill-advised way of trying to make sure your fiction is original.

It's not a terrible idea. A friend pointed out one place name in my stories was way too close to some disease. Which sucked and could have been avoided with Google back in the day. But I didn't feel that bad, because *ahem* I've seriously run into at least two pieces of (released! Actually proofread!) fiction that had a minor character named "Labia". Which may sound like a character name until you *ahem* point Google at it.

The real problem with Nava-verse is that there's no real consistency in the names. The usual question to think about is etymology - where the names come from and what do they mean, and by extension, how do you get names that fit the same sources. For example, if Gabe would base this heaven/hell stuff even vaguely on the Bible, a sprinkling of Hebrew, Greek or maybe Latin would do just fine.

I run into that same problem with my more fantastical writings. If you're fabricating a world, you have to fabricate the ENTIRE world if you want to keep from breaking immersion. That doesn't mean bludgeoning people over the head with fake etymologies or the entire structure of whales á la Moby Dick, but it means having some consistency. Talking jaguars that are callaed Grum'bal-fluumps that smoke pipes and get drunk eating butter are... unusual, but why are they even there?

• If your goal is to write something airy and fluffy (kids books), or a tale that is purposely bizarre or unusual as a metaphor (Gullivers' Travels) then by all means, go for it.
• But if you're trying to write something that's taken seriously, it's a disaster. People will see through it even if they don't consciously understand why. It'll be labeled Gay and Unrealistic. Even then, it could STILL work financially - look at Twilight, it hit all the right notes by being a creepy love story about a shitty girl who lives in a world where nothing makes sense. Pre-teens and milfs ate that up because of ROMANCE and ignored the other stuff the rest of the population mocks.

Unfortunately Gaben isn't doing either. He wants to be Asimov and write Space Operas but he can't write well enough or create a unique enough story to overcome his autism and ego and lack of actual world building.

Reminds me of another fantastic and simple piece of worldbuilding advice: Anything goes, as long as you can plausibly justify it.
