Are you fucking serious NAACP?
Let me get this out of the way before I post this. I was born and raised in the Upstate of South Carolina. I grew up around whites and blacks, and what surprised me is that for a state that gets blasted a lot on the internet for being racist, we aren't actually that racist (And no, nobody here supported the actions of the Charleston church shooter). Now, the Confederate Flag has sparked some debate in the past few days, and I just want to talk about that for a moment. You have all these Yankees saying that we need to be progressive and get rid of the flag, but what they don't see is that us Southerners are trying to be progressive, but not by discarding our flag. For years, it hasn't represented racism or white supremacy, it's represented our heritage. Yes, that asshole with the bowl haircut who shot up a church held it up on his website, but what you have to understand is that nobody (at least where I'm from) agrees or wants to change the meaning of the flag back to what it used to be. Now, if you want to take it down from the State House, that's fine, I can understand that, but when you start censoring it everywhere, that's not right. It's not progressive to censor it, it's just causing more friction. Now the NAACP wants to remove the Confederate Generals from Stone Mountain. Like, those people aren't heroes because they supported slavery, they're heroes to us because they stood up for States Rights.
You know what? Fine, you can take down the Confederate Generals, but only if you get rid of the General Sherman statue in D.C. His total war and scorched earth policies caused unneeded destruction, ruining many families lives. See NAACP? We can bitch about things too!
