guessing they knew it would only last a season as a series.

Jodie being an animated film only due to the success of a 90’s cartoon like Daria will make me think they’ll just shoehorn this character with more “diversity” agitprop while forgetting that she’s a teenage girl in high school.

And the last sentence regarding to Daria shows that they did not watch the cartoon growing up if they’re just fixating on ideas only to be trendy in current day.

The whole premise doesn't make any sense. Firstly, it's not going to be a reboot of Daria but an ancillary character. Imagine this: a reboot of the classic but cancelled too soon series The Critic is announced but it focuses on Jay's sister Margo. A character that had at most 2 B plots dedicated to her. It was doomed for failure day one.

Absolutely no one says that Jodie is their favorite character from Daria. This approach has always come off as weird and it wouldn’t surprise me if it started off as an original idea that was eventually turned into a Daria spinoff in an effort to sell it.

Jodie is a good character and a positive black role model. That's about it. This was from a time when diversity was just there and treated as a normal think as opposed to "look how diverse this character is! OMG!". Jem did it even better in the 80s. The only real flub was that the network forced Jetta to be redesigned because they thought a black Misfit would be seen as too negative. Even though The Misfits were shown as not just "bad girls" and were pretty layered and complex for a show aimed at little girls.

Daria is just way too 90s for the Current Year. It was "90s Teens: The Animated Series". You can't place it in any other era without it being changed in some way. And even if you make a 90s throwback it won't be the same because "muh sensitivities". Maybe the movie will be enjoyable. But I don't have high hopes since we can't seem to redo anything without ruining it so we don't trigger anyone who wouldn't watch it anyway.

Aside from that, the only other major plot she had dedicated was the one where she works with Daria and tries to get a bank loan for their school project, when the guy doesn't give it to her until he hears who her father is she plays the race card. The way the episode plays out leaves it ambiguous if the guy dismissed her because of race but Daria say's as much that the guy could have been racist or he could lack faith in investing in the project of two high school girls.

As to your last point: I have to disagree. You mean to tell me that there's no cynical teenagers anymore? They just disappeared overnight? Bullshit. The only thing that dates the show is the lack of cell phones, social media, and very limited reference to the internet.

If Daria was rebooted today, they’d probably mock the fact that she would mock her parents and sister as NPC’s, while then come around and say that she sounds like an NPC, and then claim she needs to be “re-educated” for society‘s sake.

Daria’s monotone and straightforward approach were the best charms of her character.
