MSG - Is it healthy? Is it good to use?

i do think "umami" in the lexicon is cringe when sat next to sweet/sour/bitter/salty, it's insane to me that we opted for a japanese loanword when "savory" is right there

I fucking hate the use of umami as a descriptor. It's just trying to appear sophisticated since savory is associated with commoners food.

I actually tried it in pasta sauce and it was disgusting.

Tomatoes and parmesan naturally contain msg/very similar compounds, I bet adding more pushed it beyond the amount where it tastes good.

I do cook with it but i only use it in like sauces, gravy, curry and soups. Basically just anywhere you have a savory liquid

More curiosity than for cooking. Growing up MSG was considered unhealthy and cheap way to make stuff palpable. I heard youtubers try to dispel it, but it's impossible to trust them while every article about the subject just screams about racism.

MSG is naturally present in a lot of foods, I don't understand the hate.
