This thread is for the discussion of the Bernie Mac movie Mr.3000

Let me just start off by saying Mr.3000 is genuinely and wholeheartedly one of the absolute worst comedies I have ever watched.
When I put my official copy of Mr.3000 in my DVD player I didnt know what I was in for.

Mr.3000 stars former "King of Comedy" (that was the group he was a part of, not a title he was given.) Bernie Mac as superstar baseball player Stan Ross. He's cocky, doesn't care about his team, and is only out for himself, and if you can't already predict where the hell this plot is going, let me know if that rock you're living under has any vacancy.

So Stan Ross hits his "3000th" baseball and is supposed to be inducted into the the hall of fame, in between him hitting the ball and him getting inducted we are introduced to the main antagonist of the movie "Mundane Statements and Situations Mistaken for Comedy", Yes people will say or do things that could potentially be funny, but has all of the comedy of a nervous conversation with your in-laws.

So it turns out Stan does not qualify for the hall of fame as 3 of his hits were counted twice. So after IDK how many years he has to go back into the MLB and hit 3 runs. I will not bore you with the rest of the details, only give you the timestamps of the times I ever came close to a laugh:

That's it. Its has the "girl that got away" it has the "oh I finally realize how much of an asshole ive been" it has the "self-sacrifice to prove hes a changed person" its got nothing of any real substance and was a complete waste of time.

Though I will say it had one scene that shocked me as it actually required some idea of filmmaking, and it was so moving in this sea of monotony, I decided to download Bandicam just to show it to you, I wouldve gone with Hypercam 2 but all of the websites looked sketchy.

In conclusion, this movie sucked, and you should never watch shitty movies just for the sake of a one off joke that most people will find stupid and the rest wont understand because it will so outdated that the context will cease to exist. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I haven't seen it since it came out on DVD when I was middle school but did he really miss out on being in the Hall of Fame because he didn't get 3000 hits?

Which is stupid in itself because if you're good enough for a decade, you can still make the Hall. Theres plenty of guys in there below 3000.

Yeah, what's even dumber is by the end of the movie he only has 2999 hits by the end of the season, and they enter him into the hall of fame anyway, because we have to reward the protagonist for sacrificing his final run to help the team win the game. Dont ask me why he cant just come back for one more season and hit the final run, the movie never explains that, but my guess is the writers didnt want to mention it because it would take out all of the tension in the final act of the movie.

he missed out on the hall of fame because he was an asshole, IIRC the hall of fame is voted on just like every other major hall of fame, and like pete rose his reputation was shit.

thats why he got in at the end of the movie, they voted him in that year because he turned his reputation around. basically Bernie mac played a mix of ty cobb and pete rose, the "actually he has less hits than we said he did because they were counted twice" actually happened to ty cobb and was a major announcement that happened right around the time this film got green lit and pete rose had a similarly shitty reputation involving money that Bernie's character has. Bernie being out of shape but still within playing age is also a big factor of this film. people forget he died at 50.

Now this is wholly realistic because we got to see firsthand the voters keeping Schilling out of the Hall just this last decade.
