You know within the first 2 minutes of the movie that Alyosha dies but the whole movie is him trying to get back to his mother when he has 6 days leave and he only gets to see her for like 3 minutes and then they never see each other again and oh no what are these tears falling down my face.

The scene where Fievel just gives up all hope and cries himself to sleep in a mud puddle while it's raining and the instrumental that would later become Dreams to Dream in the not-nearly-as-good sequel plays while slowly zooming out. I know it makes the reunion two minutes later all the better but it's still some depressing shit when you're a kid (I still get depressed with that scene actually).

A few that have already been mentioned are Grave of the Fireflies, the end of Terminator 2 and the beginning of Up. The latter in particular is just a masterclass in conveying emotion.

One that always gets me is the scene in Brassed Off where Danny is in hospital and the band are playing outside the window. I don't know what it is about that one scene, but I tear up every single time.
