Most people today usually stick to the default mouse cursor of their OS. I think it used to be a lot more common to have a custom mouse cursor, or at least one you downloaded. I just use a pretty basic one, but I'm interested if anybody has a custom one or if they know of any cool ones or where to get them.

The original point of this thread was going to be a funny idea for a mouse cursor I had, but I didn't see any really relevant threads to post in, so I wanted to open up the thread discussion to other mouse cursors as well.
The idea for this one being that this would be the cursor that loads when you go to some schizo's personal website. There's probably a funnier way to make it but I just wanted to mock this up in 3 minutes.

Obvious disclaimer that this is for comedic purposes only. I just thought it would be really funny to load into some random website and that's the cursor.

I went and looked at the KDE mouse cursors last week, searching for a set that's just simple low res icons, and I was shocked by how much fucking weeb shit clogged up the results

There are at least dozens of these, almost all by the same guy.

Anything having to do with Linux will attract people like this. Though to be fair Windows has people like this too, it's just a lot more dilute because of normies.

Thought about it some more and every time you click on the website a gunshot .wav file plays.

Back in my day we had banner advertisements for animated cursors. There were also banner advertisements for smilies(or emoticons[that's what they called emojis]) that screamed at you whenever your mouse moved over them.

I am reminded of that vinesauce windows chaos stream where joel downloads a random cursor megapack and it has pope cursors
how hard is it to make a cursor pack in linux?
ive been using the adawaita dark mouse cursor for my entire time on arch but i would be open to making my os more cursed by cobbling together a schizophrenic anime girl mouse cursor

I used to download these along with the "free" games and club penguin membership as a kid when fucking up my dad's computer. Needless to say, he was reasonably very pissed off at me

Right now I use a set of backported gray 3D cursors from Win9x era with some missing extras that IIRC I've dug out of 98's Plus! themes.

However, there is one crucial difference. One special cursor I have to apply on every scheme.

The hand cursor is a middle finger.
It has to be. It's mandatory.

Now, I couldn't faithfully replicate the Aero style since I don't have the slightest idea how Microsoft's graphics designers were pulling that off, so included are the 9x/XP plain cursors, 10 cursors and the lone 7 cursor I've grabbed online eons ago. Enjoy this pointless, yet amusing addition to your Windows installations from now on.

If you wish to make cursors of your own, I highly recommend Greenfish Icon Editor Pro. It's a free editor capable of creating Windows icons and cursors in all the specific finnicky formats, bit depths, resolutions and all that jazz. Fares way better than something like GIMP with respective plugins.

I was looking for a cool one that was a simple sword a few weeks ago for linux, ended up not finding what I was looking for and going down a rabbit hole of old websites for windows cursors.

If anyone has websites or tutorials to send me on how to do this I would appreciate it, it would be like I am playing an old DOS RPG but all the time.

I used to have a cursor pack that wouldn't look out of place in Command and Conquer. Nowadays, I just stick with the default cursor because I can't be arsed to look for a cursor pack.

Man, looking at most Linux packs and they are just packs from OTHER Linux builds I can use. Not a lot of fun ones, let alone SWORDS.

On a similar note, retard me just learned today you can change the image of file folders to anything, using regular images.

These are the file folders for said programs instead of just making shortcuts, that now sit on my desktop.
