Most disappointing live act you've seen - Bands/artists that should stick to the studio

None of the headliners I've ever seen have been particularly disappointing. I saw The Prodigy three times but the last time wasn't as good because their PA system let them down. It just sounded old and worn out and needing new drivers in the speakers. I also saw a Pendulum DJ set which was profoundly disappointing not because the DJ was bad but MC Verse was so disgustingly foul mouthed for absolutely no reason.

The worst band I've seen live was Hadouken when they were supporting Pendulum at one of their full live shows. I thought their albums were ok and I thought an ideal warm up for Pendulum. High energy drum & bass, ideal stuff. But they were fucking terrible. It sounded like each member of the band was playing different tracks. I've honestly never seen so much shit get thrown at people on stage. Beer, shoes, glowsticks, t-shirts, whatever the audience could get their hands on as ammunition got lobbed at them.

Hands down, The Flaming Lips. I was a huge fan before seeing them but their performances are so plastic and superficial. You might as well watch their music videos at home because the band literally plays along with their videos.

Close second was Bon Iver.

Municipal Waste. The singer is not that good live at all. All the energy in their songs? Yeah, he doesn't bring it in his performance. He isn't a plank on stage as he does move around a lot, but his vocal performance is trash. Saw them twice as I liked their music, and was disappointed both times.

Flaming Lips are really hit and miss when you go to see them live.

When I saw the Soft Bulletin live orchestra stuff I was blown the fuck away but their other concerts do kinda sound like shit.

This is coming from someone whose all time favorite record is The Soft Bulletin

Bob Dylan was probably the roughest one I had to sit through. Not only was I 785 miles away from the stage, but all he did was bang on his Farfisa all night and tried to play every obscure, snail paced non-hit of his he could find. (No offense to Farfisa, I am a proud mama to several organs.) Nothing rallied the crowd at any point. Also, I literally couldn’t understand a word he was saying. I had intentionally skipped John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson, only to have the joke be on me. Bands of medium fame and local acts, too many to count... oh well. At least I can say I saw Bob. Sort of.

He is notorious for being fucking boring live.

Probably Kenny Chesney. I went with my friend as his replacement girlfriend. Orginally he was supposed to go with an ex but she broke up with him a few months before the show. Instead of reselling the tickets like a normal person, he pesters our friend group to have one of us go with him. Unfortunately I took him up on it (because I'm the one in the group that actually wants to do things when invited). All I remember was we had plastic chairs at the floor of the stadium (not the best or worse with distance to stage). We left after threeish hours because: Kenny Chesney was not scheduled to go on until 11pm, I had work at 7am. Me and my friend were not intrested in the acts because ZOMG we were "not wasting tickets" on something we were not intrested in. Finally we got out as the booze was kicking in with the crowd.

I saw Ariana Grande during the Dangerous Woman Tour. Most of the performance was really good, but she bombed hard at the end.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, 2000 or so. The gig was actually pretty okay, just that Johnny Van Zant kept forgetting lyrics here and there. At least they laughed it off.

ShaneMcGowan and the Popes. Fucker passed out on stage. Also the Supersuckers. Hammered and did a40 minute soundcheck onstage. Eddie Spaghetti is a shitcunt and needs punching out.

Knew a coworker who said he went to see Van Morrison, and he played with his back to the audience the whole time just because he felt like being a dick. They were rushing the refund window like shoppers on Black Friday.
That sounds like something Van Morrison would do.

I saw Chris Bailey (from The Saints) play a solo gig supporting Johnette Napolitano (formerly of Concrete Blonde). There was a lot of goodwill in the room for him.

Evidently he didn't feel that his lesser known songs were getting the response they deserved, and became more and more surly and confrontational. At one point he said "I didn't have to pay to be here tonight". This was followed by a collective intake of breath from the audience and some murmurs of disapproval. Johnette came out and played a few duets to get him back on track. I've never seen anyone consciously piss away the approval of their fanbase like that.

Didn't go to it, but surprised no one mentioned the infamous Creed Chicago concert yet, as it's one of the worst concerts ever. Anyone that doesn't know, to finish off their world tour, Creed had it at the AllState Stadium. It was already a disaster from the beginning as Scott Stapp was drunk and on antibiotics during the performance. He stumbled through the first few songs and literally got on the stage floor and took a nap (he didn't pass out either, which makes it worse for them). He realized the concert was still going, and "performed" until someone pretty much shut it down early. It was so bad that they got a $2 million dollar lawsuit from their fans asking for refunds.

I would argue that any Creed show where Scott Stapp was fast asleep would be superior to one where he was awake, but what do I know, I'm not the kind of person who would willingly part with my money to see fucking Creed.

Necrobumping because I have a funny story to tell. Most of the bands that I paid to see were worth the money but of course I had to sit thru plenty of terrible opening bands before the main act came out. One such event happened at the very first concert I went to when I was 15. I went with a friend to see a band called Deadsy (extremely underrated band) at this small club but we had to sit thru this fucking terrible opener called "Dog Fashion Disco" which was as terrible as the name. This band actually got booed off stage before the singer came back out and said something along the lines of "this is something for you assholes to remember us by" and he took a shit on the stage. Deadsy still ripped tho.

Also I was in high school during the era of "myspace bands" and I went to the same club mentioned above with a friend to see a local band called "The Prozacs" who were pretty popular with the kids at my school, even tho they just sounded like a Blink 182 rip off.

I only saw them once, years ago. The singer would babble about 5 minutes between songs about issues he cared about.

I've had good luck with performers. The only bad show was the 311 show. I was kicked out of the venue for taking a hit off a joint that was passed to me. Bad timing I suppose, but security was cracking down on anyone who was smoking. A bunch of us wankers had to make our own fun in the parking lot.

I'm not a big music person, so I've gone to get few concerts, but Trans-Siberian Orchestra was awful live. Felt like my organs were trying to be liquified by the bass, I could feel the music more than hear it.
